world. The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons
(IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of
forced migration, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC
works in accordance with the UN Conventions on Refugees and the Code of Conduct
for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.

Job Summary:  The Shelter and Infrastructure Assistant –
Public Works will be purely responsible for strategic intervention and
supervision of the labour intensive infrastructure activities in the areas
assigned.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Coordination and
Representation

  • Report to the Shelter and Infrastructure Team Leader while executing
    out programmed activities in all the sub counties assigned.
  • Related linkages representing the organization within its internal
    guidelines/standards and those of donor partners.
  • Attend and represent the interests of DRC in all infrastructure
    related meetings with the Lower Local Governments and Coordination
    Function.
  • Represent DRC to the Local Authorities and other stakeholders in the
    district of operation as assigned.
  • Mobilize and sensitize communities on NURI project activities
  • Participate in radio talk shows on public works activities in area
    assigned

Project
Implementation

  • Mobilize and sensitize communities within the project operation
    areas assigned to you.
  • Supervise delivery of materials to project sites in Sub County of
    assignment.
  • Supervise the implementation of infrastructure projects/Public works
    in area of jurisdiction.
  • Ensure that proper groups’ attendance registers are accurately
    logged, updated and displayed to facilitate cash payment to NURI project
    beneficiaries.
  • Ensure that DRC program/activities are carried out with pace,
    effectiveness, efficiency and in compliance with Internal/Donor and
    National policies/Operational Standards/Rural infrastructure/water
    resources management manual.
  • Ensure all relevant local stakeholders are involved in the planning,
    implementation and monitoring of the infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure safe custody of tools and other assets of organization in
    his/her possession.
  • Uphold DRC code of conduct.
  • Organize trainings for Project Management Committee (PMC), Project
    User Committee (PUC)
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
  • Attend to any other duties assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Shelter and
    Infrastructure Assistant – Public Works job placement must hold a Diploma
    or degree in the following areas: – Development Studies, Social Sciences,
    Agriculture/ Forestry, Engineering and any other related field
  • At least two years of relevant work experience in the field of
    public works.
  • Experience in public works in northern Uganda and West Nile
  • Excellent Computer skills in MS word, excel
  • Experience with following standard procedures and guidelines
  • Advanced English proficiency
  • Fluency in English and local languages is a must
  • Must have a valid riding permit
  • Languages: Fluency
    in Madi, Lugbara, kakwa, Nubian and Arabic are a must.
