living in extreme poverty and exclusion, their communities, people’s
organisations, activists, social movements and their supporters.
Job Summary: The Director Programmes and Policy will
provide inspirational and strategic leadership and guidance in the development,
implementation and management of the AAIU Programmes within the organization’s
strategic framework and policies. The Director Programmes and policy through
leadership, management and knowledge will ensure that the AAIU delivers quality
programming and continuously work towards improving the impact of its
programming. The Director also leads and oversees activities to strengthen
partnerships to deliver high impact Programmes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the ActionAid Director Programmes and Policy job
must hold a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences or Development Studies. - 8-10 years of sound technical knowledge and work experience in at
least one of the AAIU thematic areas with strong interest to learn quickly
the other thematic areas; Management experience of NOT less than 5 years
with a reputable INGO. - Proven skills in managing staff, excellent coordination skills;
- Proven Programme and project cycle management skills (project
design, budget preparation, expenditure tracking, monitoring and
evaluation, proposal development, report writing skills); - Demonstrated understanding of approaches (transformative feminist
leadership and HRBA; Finance Management skills; - Strategic management;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with high proficiency
for accuracy; - Emotional maturity, ability to take constructive feedback and
perform under pressure; - Transformative feminist leadership skills – ability to coach, mentor
and inspire teams; Social movement building skills; Collaboration and partnership
building skills; Analytical skills; Policy analysis and advocacy skills;
Project planning and management.
