commercial printing, advertising and distribution services. NVPPCL is listed on
the Uganda Stock Exchange, with an expected turnover of over UGX 60 billion (FY
2010/2011).

Job Summary:  The Data Analyst will mainly manage company
data including collection, storage and analysis. The data analyst brings
technical expertise to ensure quality, accuracy and timely delivery of that data,
then process, design and present it in ways to inform the company’s business
decisions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Analyze data and interpret findings using statistical techniques to
    inform the business units strategic needs, support content development and
    analyze trends.
  • Manage data sets, including creation, development, updating and
    implementation of databases.
  • Manage components of the marketing information system.
  • Support the data collection systems and other strategies that
    optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
  • Support initiatives for data integrity and normalization by
    developing structures to monitor and check on data collected against set
    questionnaires.
  • Provide technical expertise on data storage structures, data mining,
    data cleaning and data analysis.
  • Build internal capacity by training on; data software, data usage
    and appropriate methodologies and tools to ensure reliability and validity
    of the data collected.
  • Process data and information into insights to support decision
    making.
  • Assess tests for proposed new systems and implement software
    upgrades.
  • Generate periodic reports from single or multiple systems including
    customer management system, financial system and marketing information
    system to derive correlations that measure growth and inform business
    strategic direction.
  • Develop and design research tools based on calendar and adhoc
    studies as required.
  • Keep abreast of current data development and management trends
    within market research systems and technology to maintain personal
    skills/knowledge base to deliver leading edge solutions to the department.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelors’ degree in Statistics, Science
    in Statistics, Quantitative Economics or Mathematics.
  • A Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management will be
    an added advantage.
  • Skills in qualitative methods will be an added advantage
  • Two to three years of working experience as a Data Analyst.
  • Experience in data models and reporting packages
  • Ability to analyze large datasets.
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer and data analyst technical skills.
  • Computer software and tools including; scripting language (Matlab,
    Python), Querying Language (SQL, Hive, Pig), Spreadsheet (Excel) and
    Statistical Language (SAS, R, SPSS).
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • An analytical mind and inclination for problem-solving.
  • Self-driven.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Team player.
