Uganda Wildlife
Authority (UWA) is a semi-autonomous agency under the Ministry of Tourism,
Wildlife and Antiquities. UWA was established in 1996 and is managed in
accordance with the Wildlife Act Cap 200. The Mission of UWA is: “To Conserve
and Sustainably Manage the Wildlife and Protected Areas of Uganda in
Partnership with Neighboring Communities and Other Stakeholders for the Benefit
of the People of Uganda and the Global Community.”

Job Summary:    The Warden Ecological Monitoring and
Research will assist in the implementation of UWA’s research and ecological
monitoring strategy and programmes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the development and implementation of UWA’s research
    agenda
  • Develop and implement effective ecological monitoring programmes in
    the PA.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual state of the Wildlife Report
    for Uganda.
  • Undertake research based on UWA’s Conservation Area Management
    priorities.
  • Participate in identifying and reviewing threats to the Conservation
    Area so as to suggest interventions.
  • Ensure integration of ecological monitoring and research in the
    Protected Area priorities and the General Management Plan.
  • Support in the development of UWA staff capacity to undertake
    research and ecological monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Research and Training Institutions to foster
    wildlife research and monitoring.
  • Regularly update UWA Ecological Monitoring database and generate
    reports for management decision-making.
  • Prepare quarterly work plans, performance and other reports.
  • Supervise and appraise Monitoring and Research Rangers.
  • Perform any other official duties as maybe assigned by the
    Supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Warden
    Ecological Monitoring and Research career opportunity must hold an Honors
    Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences (Related to Wildlife Conservation)
  • A minimum of three years of relevant working experience in
    ecological monitoring and research from a reputable organization.
  • Good understanding of research methodology.
  • Scholarly publication skills
  • Team building skills .
  • Strong proposal writing skills.
  • Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote
    Sensing
  • Age Limit: Below
    40 years
