Job Summary:   The Child
Protection Specialist assists with child protection plans, helping to ensure
they are clearly understood by the appropriate stakeholders. This incumbent
supports appropriate response, reporting, and management of child protection
cases. In addition, he or she helps support stakeholders regarding effective
child protection practices. At this career level, may still be learning and
assisting more skilled professionals and generally works under the guidance of
her or his supervisor or a more experienced specialist or as a team member on
larger projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent
    witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in
    dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully
    upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate for children – raising the awareness of the
    needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and
    challenging and enabling those within one’s influence to greater
    involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.
  • Assists with child protection plans and helps to support stakeholders
    regarding the implementation of effective child protection practices.
    Generally works under direct coaching and guidance of a more senior
    specialist and/or manager.
  • Using personal knowledge of basic subjects in child protection,
    including prevention and response, continually develops this knowledge
    base and augments it with practical understanding of or experience in
    facilitating appropriate responses, reporting, and management of child
    protection cases, and helping support stakeholders with effective child
    protection practices.
  • Applies basic consulting skills to share knowledge and expertise,
    providing advice that can be applied to specific prevention and response
    situations, and effectively support the party for whom they are providing
    consultation. May generally provides support to partnership facilitators,
    program implementation, other office staff or other stakeholders. Includes
    direct visits to customer/constituent groups for technical assistance,
    support, and guidance.
  • May assist staff and church partners investigating allegations of
    abuse when occurring in a community context. In Category 2 cases, supports
    the church to make appropriate investigations and interviews, providing
    the appropriate interventions for the victim, making contacts with local authorities
    as relevant, providing advice and counsel on dealing with involved
    parties. In Category 1 abuse cases, consults with leadership, legal and
    other staff as outlined in Red Alert processes, and assists in the
    investigation and response to allegations of child abuse. May assist
    higher-level specialists to effectively drive the case to conclusion.
    Maintains the online reporting and case management system, including
    supporting church partners in using the online system and reviewing cases
    entered into the system by church partners.
  • In partnership with training staff and partnership teams, assists in
    the delivery of training materials and curriculum on a broad spectrum of
    child protection topics, ensuring that stakeholders have ongoing,
    high-quality learning materials to for a holistic approach for effective
    interventions and prevention of child abuse. Supports capacity building in
    assigned areas.
  • Implements child protection strategies and plans of action within
    the assigned office.
  • Identifies child protection programming areas requiring outside
    collaboration and partnership, assists with developing and maintaining
    partnership, engages in external relationship-building, and may attend
    inter-agency meetings.
  • Understands local and organizational policies for child protection.
    Supports awareness and training to church partners on child protection
    policies. Implements and follows through work assignments.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Compassion International Child
    Protection Specialist job must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare,
    Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related discipline.
  • Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Accountable for supporting, upholding, and engaging in Compassion’s
    core “Cultural Behaviors” in all internal and external
    communication and relationships.
