company cross listed on both the Uganda Securities Exchange and the Nairobi
Securities Exchange with over 6,483 shareholders, including high value
international institutional investors. Umeme operates under a concession with a
structural monopoly in the distribution of electricity across Uganda,
distributing 99% of electricity in Uganda through a single buyer model.

Job Summary:    The District Manager will be responsible for
the effective implementation of Business plans in line with Company Annual
Operating Plan at the business unit level as designed and directed by the
Regional Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement the business unit specific customer experience
    enhancement strategies in liaison with the Head of Customer service.
  • Drive adherence to the Company’s customer service standards in order
    to achieve overall customer satisfaction.
  • Appropriately manage, maintain and promote good relationships with
    all Business Stakeholders
  • Spearhead the development and effective execution of the respective
    Stakeholder Engagement Plan with close liaison with Manager Stakeholder
    Relations.
  • Efficiently drive and oversee the achievement of business unit
    operational key business drivers by;
    • Lead in the development and implementation of the business unit
      loss reduction plans with emphasis to administrative losses.
    • Maximizing Sales Revenue Collection by enforcing all company credit
      control procedures
    • Overseeing the proper installation and accurate set up of customer
      meters in the billing systems
    • Monitoring the meter reading and billing processes to ensure that
      all customers are accurately and promptly billed.
    • Managing the budgeting process at business unit level and enforcing
      the business unit cost management initiatives in order to ensure that
      budget limits are not exceeded.
    • Overseeing and supporting the implementation of the company’s CAPEX
      program within his area of jurisdiction.
    • Development and implementation of Sales Oriented strategies to
      ensure vertical and horizontal growth of the business unit customer portfolio.
  • Plan, evaluate and improve the efficiency of business processes and
    procedures to enhance timeliness and quality output.
  • Drive staff performance by appropriately utilizing the company
    performance measurement tools and implementing staff training and development
    plans at district level.
  • Managing performance of staff at business unit level and driving
    super engagement
  • Oversee operations in all service centres under his/her territory.
  • Coordinate other Departmental Section heads to ensure seamless
    service delivery to the customer
  • Ensure compliance with operational standards to ensure strategic
    direction and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure team compliance to the Umeme business code of conduct

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Umeme District Manager job vacancy must
    hold an honors degree in Business Administration, Finance or related
    Field.
  • Three years of post qualification experience in a commercially
    driven organization with high standard business ethics.
