Job Summary:  The Accountant will be responsible for
performing accounting and financial reporting functions to support the
management team in ensuring the efficient and effective management of IIDC
financial resources.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

                    
Efficient
and careful input of data into the accounting system, including the efficient
and organized filing of transaction vouchers and support documents and receipts
for easy retrieval;

                    
Maintaining
up-to-date ledgers for all projects and ensuring that all transactions are
posted on a daily basis and are reconciled to correctness as per projects and
expenditure codes in order to facilitate efficient and timely reporting to
management and development partners;

                    
Preparing
financial reports and submitting to management for approval as per agreed
reporting schedules;

                    
Cash
management: Ensure efficient and careful handling of the organization’s cash,
making approved payments by both cash and cheques.  Ensuring that there is proper maintenance of
cash books and that cash at hand is always reconciled with the book records;

                    
Carrying
out monthly reconciliations of debtors, creditors, bank accounts, and cash
accounts and follow up the discrepancies;

                    
Reviewing
petty cash account and conducting spot-checks to ensure compliance with
procedures. Ensure that a petty cash count acknowledgement certificate is
signed and enter the transactions into the accounting system;

                    
Preparing
the payroll and ensuring that the staff salaries and related statutory
deductions are paid;

                    
Keeping
up-to-date with the tax regulations and ensure that IIDC is complying with all
the applicable tax obligations;

                    
Receiving
invoices and cash requisition forms after approval from the Executive Director;
verifying the payment vouchers and preparing the cheques for signing;

                    
Making
payments that are fully authorized and have all supporting documents attached
before filing;

                    
Accountability
for activity cash advances: Ensure that staff sign for cash advances; follow up
staff who have taken a cash advance for an activity and ensure that receipts are
provided for all cash spent and balances returned to the accountant;

                    
Stock
control: conducting regular spot-checking to ensure that stock is well managed.

                    
Updating
the organizational fixed asset register tracking acquisitions, disposals and
write offs and computing depreciation charges;

                    
Cooperating
with external auditors and spearhead the implementation of audit
recommendations; and

                    
Building
the capacity of partner organizations: support program staff to address project
partner training needs relating to accounting and financial management when
required.

Other Duties

                    
Providing
mutual support to colleagues organizing events and activities when required

                    
Taking
part in resource mobilization initiatives of IIDC; and

                    
Undertaking
any other official responsibilities as may be necessary for the growth and
development of the organization.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

                    
The
ideal candidate must hold a Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting, Commerce or
related field

                    
ACCA /
CPA qualification

                    
At least
four (4) years working experience in Accounting & Finance within the
not-for-profit sector;

                    
Proficiency
in Quick Books;

                    
Presentation
and communication skills;

                    
Ability
to train and facilitate learning;

                    
Demonstrated
organizational, analytical and leadership skills; and

                    
Demonstrated
ability to achieve strategic goals in a fast-paced environment.
