Job Summary:  The project officer will plan, promote,
manage, deliver and evaluate events and project outputs, working with partners
and stakeholders to meet the British Council’s strategic objectives under the
Education and Society Special Business Unit. The role will support the delivery
of our examinations in Kampala. Principal areas of responsibility include
operational delivery, compliance with quality/security standards and ensuring
that all exams are processed according to the British Council’s quality and
compliance guidelines. The role is part of the Higher Education team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Product / Service /
Project Delivery:
Deliver high
quality events and project activity working with partners and stakeholders in
order to meet global, regional and country plans in the Higher education space
including the commonwealth scholarships. Manage, plan and co-ordinate events.
This will include:
  • Delivering / implementing assigned project activity and deliverables
    from annual work plan, using assigned resources efficiently and cost
    effectively to deliver required income, impact and profitability targets
    for agreed service/product/programme delivery within country.
  • Developing activity plans/schedules and activity budgets for
    delivery of activity components, monitoring progress against
    plan/schedules and adjusting accordingly.
  • Prepare and submit high quality timely reports of completed
    activities and events.
  • Provides logistical support in the delivery of internal and external
    activities/events, to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Working effectively with partners, clients and customers in
    delivering quality effective activities.
  • Contributing to risk management of programme activity.
Marketing and
Communications:
Support the
delivery of agreed marketing and communications strategy outputs. This will
include, but not limited to:
  • Contributing to effective communication and marketing plans for
    project activities and completing allocated tasks / outputs to BC brand
    and quality standards
  • Working with agencies to ensure that promotional and branded
    materials meet branding standards
  • Managing content of publications of various project materials
    Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and Child Protection standards
  • Support the programme manager to ensure that project delivery and
    activities reflect British Council EDI policy.
  • Ensure that Child Protection policy and Child Safe standards are
    followed and maintained for all relevant projects, and all specific
    aspects within projects.
  • Other duties:
  • Financial management tasks for assigned project activity budgets
    Supporting Exams delivery
  • The post holder will be expected to provide administrative support
    to the exams team in Uganda that looks at the delivery and administration
    of UK professional qualifications and exams in Uganda.
Candidate
registration process support:
  • Monitoring the candidate logs to ensure all candidates are
    registered and confirmed for their tests at all times as stipulated by the
    UK Board.
  • Managing the candidate classes to ensure numbers for all tests are
    confirmed based on space availability.
Able to
plan/forecast/monitor/manage simple budgets:
  • Able to support the preparation of cash flow forecast and accruals
    by providing relevant information for their particular area of
    responsibility.
  • Preparing and/ or checking examiner/marker/invigilator payments.
    Understands the basic principles of good financial practice.
Exams delivery
planning and management:
  • Negotiating and booking of venues which meet agreed standards and
    can demonstrate value for money criteria used in selection will be in line
    with British Council procurement policies and guidelines.
Processing exams
related data and information:
  • Understands the importance of keeping exams environments secure
    before, during and after the exam day and of the following systems which
    protect self and the colleagues from unfair accusations of malpractice.
  • Maintain quality and compliance requirements stipulated by UK exam
    bodies.
  • Understands the general principles of secure unpacking, packing
    counting, logging and shredding of materials.
  • Able to use different stock management processes to ensure exams
    secure materials and equipment can be tracked internally and externally.
  • Able to understand and effectively uphold the audit criterion that
    ensures most of the above.
Other important

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the British Council Project Officer job should
    hold a Social development qualification from a recognized university.
  • Project planning and management
  • Resource planning and management.
  • Business administration
  • A track record of supporting project development and implementation
  • Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Highly organised and deadline oriented
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
