Humanity has an Administrative Headquarters based in Atlanta, an Operational
Headquarters based in Americus, Georgia, and Area Office bases of operations in
Manilla, Philippines for our Asia and Pacific work, San Jose, Costa Rica for our
Latin American and Caribbean work and Bratislava, Slovakia for our Europe, the
Middle East and Africa work. 
HFH Uganda has
Built, Rehabilitated, Repaired or Improved more than 12,000 housing units in
Uganda, providing simple, affordable shelter for over 52,386 individuals.
Job Summary:  The National Director will have overall
responsibility for fiscal soundness of country operations and maintenance of
effective internal controls. He/she must demonstrate proven experience in
effective operational management, financial analysis and oversight of leading
in a medium to large entity. Over and above this, the incumbent will need
demonstrated experience in resource mobilization with a proven track record of
raising funds and expanding programmes. The National Director will supervise,
monitor and evaluate the implementation of the country operations – and all
related administrative, financial, human resources, logistics and security
aspects – ensuring timely and quality project delivery, as well as cost
efficiency and accountability, in compliance with Habitat for Humanity and
donors guidelines, regulations and procedures. The incumbent will be a highly
driven, results and team orientated senior leader, capable of building and
growing organizations and leading through influence. We seek a leader who can
inspire and guide teams while holding its senior management accountable.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a University Degree in a relevant field,
    such as international development or relations, public administration,
    management, civil engineering, and/or social sciences.
  • Master’s preferred.
  • Ten or more years of successful international experience including
    five or more years effective senior management experience.
  • Community development experience is a distinct advantage
  • Understanding of housing issues in Uganda, particularly in relation
    to its linkages with health & development outcomes. Technical
    knowledge in specific housing areas will be an asset.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent external representation
    /relationship management skills with proven experience in establishing and
    maintaining collaborative relations with Staff, various Local Authorities
    and Institutions, Donors, International Agencies, NGOs and other
    stakeholders. He/she will be expected to establish and significantly grow
    partnerships with other NGOs, INGOs, relevant Ministries, and the private
    sector.
  • Capacity building experience including training and skills
    development.
  • Demonstrated success in securing major grants and managing
    donor/partner relations in particular, institutional donors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in risk, financial management and fulfilling
    the oversight role of ensuring compliance with organizational policies,
    grants and key donor requirements.
  • Excellent English language skills (written, reading and spoken).
  • Demonstrated analytic capacity and writing ability at a superior
    level.
  • Proven experience including in-depth understanding of designing
    logical frameworks and theory of change for complex, multi-year projects
    and leading teams in formulating strategic and action plans
  • Experience in program evaluation at both outcome and impact level.
  • Ability to implement vision, think strategically and solve problems
    creatively, exercise good judgement, champion positive change, and
    prioritize workload
  • Computer literate, with strong knowledge of MS Office applications,
    spread sheets, database programs, and statistical software packages.
  • The candidate should be mature, with a stable personality, an
    ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality and should align with
    the core Christian ethos of the organization.
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in people
    management and getting the best out of people through coaching, mentoring,
    capacity building or training. He/she will have worked in a key leadership
    role within a complex organization, have problem solving abilities and
    skilled in adjusting priorities, meeting deadlines and adapting to change.
  • We are seeking a leader with refined strategic competence but who
    also has the understanding of and the ability to work with the detail.
