DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of
the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development
Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda
Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International
Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25%
stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development
projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing
financial commercial lending institutions.
Job Summary:  The Segment Head-Public Sector & Financial
Institutions will develop and execute business plans for the segment in line
with the overall Corporate Banking business strategy. The Segment Head will
lead a team of Relationship Managers and work closely with Personal and
Business Banking to ensure that they get maximum revenue from all the
relationships. The role involves sustainably growing the segment balance sheet,
revenue and customer numbers on whilst managing risk of loss on the portfolio.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Manage client portfolios within the Public Sector and Financial
    Institutions and are responsible for providing leadership to RMs/SRMs
    managing the portfolios
  • Contribute to achievement of corporate banking revenue target from
    the segment
  • Together with the RMs and SRMs, originate and conduct assessment of
    business propositions for both new and existing clients
  • Support the relationships to protect the Bank from loss, maximize
    returns in a manner consistent with the business strategy.
  • Execute sales plans to ensure that all products meet budget
  • Provide responsive, proactive, proficient and effective banking
    service to customers, there by expanding share of business
  • Develop a good retention strategy in the portfolio for existing
    clientele, there by growing the wallet share
  • Provide ‘Best in Class’ Relationship Management with Corporates –
    ‘Strengthening bank’s brand in the corporate arena through participation
    in Industry events, organizing events for dfcu customers.
  • Develop and enforce monitoring/ control procedures
  • Manage the asset portfolio to minimise loss and maximise returns

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the DFCU Bank Segment Head-Public Sector &
    Financial Institutions job placement must have five years of experience in
    Relationship management skills or similar position
  • 3 -5 years of experience in managing people
  • Good understanding of corporate bank products including but not
    limited to; Trade Finance Product, treasury, project finance, lending etc.
  • Strong business acumen and a deep understanding of how the role
    contributes to business success
  • Knowledge of bank products and services
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
  • Good leadership, performance driving and teambuilding skills
  • Credit analysis and due diligence skills
  • Exceptional client relationship management skills
  • Understanding/management of customer, product and market risks
  • Good understanding of risk management and mitigation techniques
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and within a dynamic team.
  • Excellent networking skills.
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of customers with different business
  • Selling skills (to new business, cross selling to all business
  • Ability to manage a complex workload and work to tight deadlines
  • Understanding of varied product solutions required within the bank’s
    customer base and ability to recommend new products for development in
    relation to customer feedback received through relationship management.
