About USAID LARA Program:
RTI International is
implementing the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
funded Literacy Achievement and Retention Activity under Cooperative Agreement
# AID-617A-15-00009. The 5-year USAID/Uganda Literacy Achievement and Retention
Activity is expanding the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) early grade
reading ‘ program and supporting the implementation of the National Strategic
Plan on Violence against Children in Schools (VACiS) 2015-2020. It seeks to
reinforce the implementation of the MoES 2014 Reporting, Tracking, Referral,
and Response (RTRR) Guidelines in the 28 implementation districts. The project
seeks to fill positions in 10 districts across Uganda including Bukomansimbi,
Mukono, Rakai, Mityana, Sembabule, Gomba, Gulu, Lira, Omoro and Oyam.
Job Summary:  The Program Coordinator (Training) will
implement a high quality teacher training program focused on early grade
reading and positive and supportive school climates. The Program Coordinator
will 1) use M&E data to populate lists of teachers to be trained and will
ensure the timely distribution of invitations, 2) gather information necessary
for preparing training budgets, 3) complete duties such as ensuring a proper
record of teachers during the training, 4) have logistical duties including
assisting with procurement prior to training and managing and distributing
training materials, 5) during training, the Program Coordinator will coordinate
training activities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the USAID LARA Project Program Coordinator
    (Training) career opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in implementing Early Grade
    Reading methodology and positive and supportive school climates
  • Fully competent in information systems skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communications
    skills in both Local language and English.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and the ability to perform and
    collaborate under challenging conditions.
  • Strong planning, community mobilization and inter-cultural
    communication skills required.
  • Experience working on a USAID-funded or other donor project
    pertaining to technical and organization capacity development.
  • Must speak local language of duty station area (Luganda, Runyoro,
    Rutoro, Runyankole/ Rukiga) and English.
  • Current knowledge of supports that help create a positive and
    supportive school climate including methods to build effective
    recognition, response, reporting and referral systems that protect
    children against school-related gender based violence.
