About UNHCR:
The Office of the
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14,
1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute
of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is to lead
and co-ordinate action for international protection to refugees; seek permanent
solutions for the problems of refugees and safeguard refugee rights and
well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate concerning issues of statelessness,
as it is given a designated role under Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the
Reduction of Statelessness.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Support government registration activities ensuring that SOPs are
    implemented and required resources are available, especially during
    emergency situations
  • Offer technical support to the government on the new registration
    tools and connectivity
  • Support data management and generation of population statistics
  • Quickly respond to queries from asylum seekers and refugees
    regarding registration procedures, documentation, as well as on their
    rights and entitlements.
  • Identify persons with specific needs and ensure timely referral to
    protection/litigation.
  • Collaborate with protection staff and/or partners in the delivery of
    assistance and programming, including provision of identity and
    entitlement documentation
  • Act as interpreter and translator when needed.
  • Perform any other related duties as required
Key Result Areas:
  • Performance of the incumbent will be assessed at the end of the
    contract term against the objectives specified in the Terms of Reference
  • Registration Standard Operating Procedures and Food Collection
    Standard Operating Procedures are implemented in accordance with relevant
    standards and policies.
  • Persons of concern have fair and transparent access to registration
    procedures

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations Registration Assistant
    career opportunity should have completed secondary education preferably
    with post-secondary training or certificate in social science, statistics,
    mathematics, information technology or related fields.
  • At least two years of relevant job experience
  • Good computer, typing and data entry skills
  • Excellent knowledge of English and local language
  • Knowledge of any of the languages spoken by the refugee communities.
