Energising
Development (EnDev) is a global multi-donor partnership implemented by Deutsche
Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) that facilitates access to
modern energy services in 25 countries worldwide. In Uganda, EnDev, under the
Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (PREEEP)
cooperates closely with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD).
EnDev Uganda facilitates access to modern energy services through market
development with the private sector for improved cook stoves (ICS) and solar PV
products. In its Biomass 2 programme component, EnDev Uganda supports Ugandan
ICS companies to increase their production capacity through use of efficient
production techniques, increase product and service quality as well as
competitiveness and marketability, and expand distribution outreach and ICS
awareness through establishment of sales outlets across Uganda with dedicated
sales teams. EnDev provides this strategic support largely through a
results-based business development framework. In order to further implement its
ICS market development activities and to increase access to ICS for households,
SMEs and social institutions, EnDev Uganda is looking for a skilled and
experienced Clean Energy Expert to support EnDev Uganda’s ICS partners in
implementing their energy access projects.
Job Summary:  The Clean Cooking Energy Expert is responsible
for;
·        
Support
to the design, successful implementation and monitoring of EnDev Uganda ICS
project activities with partner companies and NGOs.
·        
Regular
engagement and coordination with MEMD, key energy sector institutions and EnDev
Uganda implementing partners.
·        
Assisting
the supervisor in his management and technical tasks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
ICS Market
Development
·        
Provision
of technical expertise in distribution and marketing operations of EnDev
Uganda’s implementing partners to increase their outreach for ICS sold to
households, SMEs and social institutions across Uganda.
·        
Support
input into the strategic development of the EnDev Uganda ICS market-based
approach for energy access through preparation of concepts, identifying key
partners, etc.
·        
Management
and implementation of contracts with EnDev partner companies, as well as
consultancies, including undertaking regular sales monitoring and verification
exercises
·        
Conducting
and coordination of regular ICS production site and user/agent field visits to
assess project progress and evaluate interventions by EnDev Uganda’s
implementing partners
·        
Effective
communication and strategic engagement with EnDev Uganda’s partners and key
energy stakeholders through organization and facilitation of relevant
meetings/workshops, trainings, presentations, exhibitions, field research etc.
·        
Coordination
and implementation of ICS promotional and marketing activities e.g. sales
outlet/community/user activations, branding of relevant company sites, etc.
·        
Any
other duties assigned and agreed to by GIZ – EnDev.
Knowledge
Management and M&E
·        
Regularly
updates the EnDev Head of Project and the Head of the Biomass 2 Component on
the progress of ongoing and planned ICS related activities.
·        
Updates
the team on developments within the Ugandan ICS market and important sector
trends, as well as assists partners in reporting activities.
·        
Compiles
up-to-date project activity information and prepares documents addressing
lessons learnt, project factsheets with an overview of intervention areas, and
relevant presentations etc.
Other
duties/additional tasks
·        
Performs
other duties and tasks at the request by the Head of Country Project.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
·        
The
ideal candidate must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant area such as
renewable energy, environmental management, business or social administration
or other related fields.
·        
Relevant
training and postgraduate qualifications are an added advantage.
·        
At least
five years of professional working experience in the energy sector, including
at least 2 years of active engagement with the private sector
·        
Comprehensive
understanding of the energy sector and clean cooking energy sub-sector in
Uganda and associated trends
·        
Experienced
in the management and/or operation of sales/distribution and marketing channels
for ICS and other clean energy products and services
·        
Effective
in communication related tasks, e.g. presentations, organization and
facilitation of meetings, reporting, etc.
·        
Experience
in assessment and evaluation of ICS production techniques, stove usability and
end-user feedback
·        
Experiences
in working independently and result oriented
·        
Experience
in project, consultant and stakeholder coordination.
·        
Ability
to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and precise manner.
·        
Strong
organisational and analytical skills and ability to work well under pressure
with minimal supervision.
·        
Good
working knowledge of ICT (related software, phone, email, the internet) and
computer applications (e.g. MS Office databases).
·        
High
degree of self-motivation and team spirit in multi-cultural and
inter-disciplinary team
·        
Excellent
knowledge of written and spoken English language.
·        
Willingness
to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed.
