About USAID CHC Project:
Communication for
Healthy Communities (CHC) is a five- year program implemented through a
cooperative agreement between the United States Agency for International
Development USAID/Uganda) and FHI 360. The project is designed to support the
Government of Uganda and partners to design and implement quality health
communication interventions to contribute to reduction in HIV Infections, total
fertility, maternal & child mortality, malnutrition, malaria &
tuberculosis. CHC works with Ministry of Health and partners to rollout a
nationwide OBULAMU integrated health communication platform through: Mass
media; outdoor media; social and digital media; and, inter personal
communication (IPC).
Job Summary:  The Regional Communication Officer will
coordinate day-to-day implementation of health communication activities at the
regional, district and community level.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide technical assistance to implementing partners, districts,
    health centres, and C505 on health communication (HC) matters, including
    development and dissemination of health communication materials and
    interventions
  • Support the development, review, field testing, and customization of
    health communication materials for various communities and target
    audiences
  • Ensure that health communication materials reflect local contexts
    and needs in the districts.
  • Maintain a database of key stakeholders who implement HlV/AIDS,
    Malaria, Family Planning, TB Nutrition and Maternal/Child Health programs
    in the region/district
  • Support implementing partners and districts in identifying, training
    and supervising community champions/mobilizers to improve client referrals
    and linkage between health centre’s and the community
  • Provide technical assistance to District Health Educators (DHEs) in
    the day—today planning, implementation and monitoring of health
    communication activities Monitor on—going health communication
    interventions in the region and obtain feedback from the community.
  • Regularly document (on a quarterly basis) success stories that show
    the impact of project interventions.
  • Develop activity reports and participate in developing protect
    quarterly and annual reports

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicants for the USAID FHI 360 Regional Communication Officer
    jobs must hold Bachelor’s degrees in communication, social sciences,
    public health or related field
  • Four years of experience in health communication (HC), public health
    and community mobilization
  • Experience working with USAID programs, implementing partners and
    districts.
  • Experience working with village Health Teams and other community
    agents/mobilizers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (and at
    least one regional language)
  • At least four years of experience in health communication, community
    mobilization or advocacy and social mobilization or an equivalent
    combination of relevant education and/or experience sufficient to
    successfully perform the key responsibilities of the Job.
  • Willingness, familiarity with the local language and context and
    ability to work in the region indicated
