Job Summary: The Program Officer will serve in a high level
and long-term position that combines both field and management experience. As
the Program Manager, you lead the overall Jinja program, make a significant
contribution in building up Uganda and have a lasting impact on the country and
East Africa. Your job will be very entrepreneurial, and you will create
tangible social good for Ugandan communities. As a key leader, you will get
world-class management exposure and will be connected to an international
organization that has staff based across 3 continents. You will work in a truly
multicultural environment and the Uganda team has a very diverse leadership
team including people from within and outside of Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Manage our inaugural African project intended to demonstrate
innovative, scalable and sustainable pathways for social and economic
self-sustainability for Ugandan orphans and rural people - Drive and shape the project in a way that leads to supporting our
mission, assessing investment opportunities and partnerships to ensure
strategic and budget alignment - Steward relationships with existing grantees and intermediaries,
ensuring that grantees have the resources, financial and otherwise, they
need to succeed in meeting their goals - Oversee the project budget, anticipating implications with changing
scenarios - Evaluate ongoing program strategies, results, and metrics, and
proactively make recommendations for strengthening the impact of the
portfolio while also contributing to the internal team’s ongoing learning
and evaluation efforts - Support program staff and oversee their work, manage the day to day
human resource issues
External Leadership

- Serve as a leader in this space, driving and collaborating on
national strategies with a wide range of leaders spanning corporate,
government, education and non-profit sectors - Cultivate cross-sector partnerships with business leaders,
policy-makers, other NGOs - Develop deep, transformative relationships with STEM education and
research leaders; building strong relationships with external partners in
the education and research sectors are key to the long-term success of this
initiative - Form a long-term Uganda Advisory Board, charged with providing
strategic guidance to the Foundation; the Advisory Board will convene
regularly, be integrated with CherYsh’s work, and act as advisors and
advocates for CherYsh’s programs
Communications
- Lead and contribute to the national discourse on topics related to
modern power, data science and education representing CherYsh with the
highest level of professionalism, connecting with external partners, at
conferences and events, and through the work of the project portfolio - Communicate the strategies, learning, and impact of CherYsh
initiatives in grant making and management activities, and through
strategy papers, impact reports, and other written materials for internal
and external stakeholders (e.g., Board of Directors, Executive Director,
etc.) to drive internal initiatives and contribute to the international
discourse - Advance the narrative about the Modern Power strategy by working
with senior leadership and other team members, including preparing talking
points, briefing materials, strategic presentations and recommendations on
salient program issues, strategies, and other relevant topics - Disrupt current systems with innovations to foster lasting results,
utilizing tools such as digital platforms and multi-sector partnerships - Be the face of Uganda and present the program to external parties
such as government, parastatals, donors, and others.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicants must hold an advanced degree (Master’s level or
higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Bio-Medical
Engineering, Medicine or Public Health. - The applicant must be a truly extraordinary professional with 3+
years of work experience and ideally a demonstrated passion for
international development. - This is an extremely competitive posting for a business/
management-style position. - Mission-driven individual that can 100% align with the company
values in putting communities first. - Strong general management skills and ability to manage a wide range
of scientific topics across different stakeholders. - Experience in implementing financial efficiency measures strongly
preferred. - Proven track record of leading and guiding teams to make high-level
decisions in an effective manner (Please include 2-3 examples in your
application of when and how you have lead and guided high-level decisions) - Strong leadership experience and ability to lead a team in setting a
vision, annual strategy and goals and hold everyone accountable to it. - Willingness to commit to living in Jinja or Kampala.
