headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya with offices in Kampala, Dar es Salaam, London,
and Hong Kong, is the global leader of “pay-as-you-go” energy for
off-grid customers. Since its commercial launch in October 2012, M-KOPA has
connected more than 650,000 homes in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to solar power,
and is now adding over 600 new homes each day. The success of M-KOPA (M=
mobile, KOPA= to borrow) stems from making solar products affordable to
low-income households on a pay-per-use instalment plan. Customers acquire solar
systems for a small deposit and then purchase daily usage “credits”
for US $0.50-$1.00,or less than the price of traditional kerosene lighting.
Job Summary:   The Market
Development – Project Manager will oversee and manage M-KOPA’s “Powering
Agriculture” project supported by funding from the MasterCard Fund for Rural
Prosperity (FRP). The project will enable M-KOPA to expand some if it’s new
product and financial services line deeper into the rural areas of Uganda and
to offer innovative financial solutions targeted at rural farming customers.
This includes overseeing all aspects of delivering on project results, strategy
oversight, implementation, team management, and budget management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
all aspects involved in delivering the results of the M-KOPA FRP project within
timeframes and budget and ensuring the project has lasting commercial and
operational impact on the M-KOPA Uganda core business
with the Uganda management team and M-KOPA UK Labs Team to determine the
project strategy, goals, team, and implementation plan
and understand the challenges facing M-KOPA in delivering new product and financial
services to rural off-grid populations involved in agriculture and test new
solutions to determine scalable solutions
strategic partnerships with potential partners to test the new solutions and
manage implementing the working solutions at scale
an entire multi-functional team to implement the project, which can include
distribution partnership officers, field sales officers, financial accountants,
R&D partners, and many other stakeholders.
of project data collection and analysis (financial and other) and development
of regular progress reports to the MasterCard Foundation.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
The ideal
candidate for the Market Development – Project Manager job must have relevant
skills, qualifications and experience  
analytical and project management capabilities across multiple areas of a
business, ideally having managed large projects or strategic consulting work
studying market opportunities and launching innovative new products and then
optimizing their operational implementation across a business
modeling, iterating and optimizing operational processes within a business
equally well managing a large team from the head office as they do deep in the
rural field understanding the realities of rural customers and determining the
right products to be offering them
innovative problem solver who can create simple agriculture products in complex
and diverse farmer environments
team and project management skills, being able to achieve results of a project
within budget manage to results and
leadership, coaching, communication, and facilitation skills
fluency both written and spoken, Ugandan languages an asset
computer and data skills with strong experience using Microsoft Office suite
and other data analysis and visualization experience
