Job Summary:  The Research Assistant will actively engage in
research methods training conducted by study team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Engage in research methods training conducted by study team.
  • Provide a link between researchers and people in target study site.
  • Liaise with study site personnel to identify and approach study
    participants and obtain informed consent.
  • Conduct interviews with study participants.
  • Prepare timely field notes of observations in English.
  • Maintain project tracking systems, including data collection,
    financial tracking, and other actions.
  • Participate in data collection.
  • Participate in data entry and data quality assurance practices.
  • Transmit data and tracking information to team on a regular basis.
  • Maintain frequent communication with study coordinators and study
    team.
  • Participate in quality improvement work in health facilities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Research Assistant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or
    Midwifery
  • Extensive knowledge of research methods and ethical procedures.
  • Experience with newborn resuscitation
  • Experience with quantitative and Qualitative data collection
  • Experience working with people of different nationalities and
    backgrounds
  • Strong computer literacy skills including typing, Microsoft Excel,
    and Microsoft word.
  • Work experience in rural communities.
  • Must have a good work ethic, respectful of colleagues and work with
    both the high and lowly.
  • Ability to work outside one’s comfort zone
  • Flexible in all he or she does
  • Must be willing to work extended working hours in different
    countries where needed.
  • Willingness to fast build training skills where needed.
NB: This is a
one year position with potential for renewal.
