Uganda Christian
University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College was
promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College trained
clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local
chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.
International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. The
Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the
College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s,
the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the
higher education – not only of clergy but of other professionals as well.
Uganda Christian University was established in 1997.
Job Summary:  The Marketing Officer will develop, implement
and execute strategic marketing plans to attract potential customers and retain
current ones.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Measures, enhances and enriches UCU position and image through goals
    and objectives;
  • Conducts surveys and connects these to UCU vision, goals and
  • Implements and Evaluates effectiveness of communication products and
  • Helps plan activities designed to identify and reach target markets
    for specific purposes;
  • Collects and analyzes data, including Web analytics for market
  • Monitors trends (education delivery, communications products,
    employment, social media, etc.) and connects these to strategies;
  • Researches job growth and availability and engages department, including
    career development, to employ tactics that connect/adjust program and
    enrollment goals to these data; and
  • Provides competitive analysis of UCU to other East African higher
    education institutions.
  • Write and edit in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles
    and annual reports.
  • Devise and coordinate photo and video opportunities.
  • Organize events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days
    and press tours.
  • Regularly compile a list of events and happenings in UCU and share
    with the community.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must hold a good Bachelor’s Degree in
    Marketing/Business from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in marketing
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must have strong budgeting skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proven ability to work with diverse personalities, and to build
    meaningful relationships
  • Excellent computer skills e.g. word, excel, access, PowerPoint
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must be a committed and practicing Christian
