The provision of
employee assistance programs to staff commenced in 2009 following a need to
enable staff build resilience in relation to the stressors that they may face
as a result of their nature of work as humanitarian workers. The total number
of national staff are 61 (6 Kampala, with the remaining spread in the field in
Arua, Omugo & Imvepi refugee settlements) and 32 Community based volunteers
Job Summary:  The environment and working conditions in
which the staff have to operate often involve high workload and /or traumatic
events and other work factors such as long hours which could reduce employee
effectiveness and therefore organizational performance. The aim of this
consultancy is therefore to offer briefing and debriefing services in Kampala
or at the field station, individual and group counseling sessions to HI staff
based in Uganda, by providing them with an opportunity to talk about their
challenges with a professional counsellor and empowering them in identifying
ways of alleviating these challenges. Additional areas to be addressed may
include but not limited to:-

management

and problem solving in the work place

Conflict
resolution and team building
·        
Change
management
By the end of the
mission:
·        
The
Counsellor will have a better understanding of the context, environment, and
conditions in the field stations that affect the staff.
·        
Staff
will have gained coping skills in relation to the challenges faced
·        
Briefing
and debriefing sessions conducted
·        
HI

Key Result Areas
By the end of
mission:
·        
Meetings
with the HR Manager, managerial staff, team leaders and community based
volunteers conducted.
·        
Discussions
and solution-seeking sessions with staff will be conducted on areas of
challenges raised
·        
Better
understanding by Senior Management of the challenges faced by staff in the
mission
Proposed Agenda & Activities
The sessions will be
conducted on need basis average duration in field stations will be 5 days
including travel days. Sessions for the Kampala office shall be on appointment
basis and if need be conducted in house training sessions. While on field
mission HI will cater for the following:-

to the field station

while in the field station
Reporting and Follow Up

Type of

Written
internal report

Verbal
feedback (in complement to written report)
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
·        
The applicant
must hold a Masters in Counseling Psychology
·        
Five years
of experience in trauma counselling and conducting trainings
·        
Must be
available to be contacted on short notice
·        
Must be
flexible to fit in the program of the staff requiring the services, ready to
work long hours in the field stations.
·        
The
working language will be English.
