Restless Development
(Uganda) is an International NGO established to address the challenges faced by
young people in Uganda by placing young people at the forefront of change and
development. Our vision is for all Ugandan youth to live healthy and productive
lives, fully supported by those around them. Our programming focuses on three
core areas: youth sexual and reproductive health and rights, youth civic
participation and youth employment and livelihoods.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Communications
strategy and plan (50%)
  • With support From the Fundraising and partnerships team, deliver our
    communications strategy and annual plan to increase Restless Development
    Uganda’s visibility including:
  • Social media management (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, write-ups For
    our We Are Restless blog)
  • Event management – National Youth Working Group, International Youth
    Day, Restless Values day, programme events,   etc.
  • Media engagement including press, TV, radio, online media, key
    influencers
  • Youth network and alumni engagement including management oF our
    contact database (CIVI)
  • Develop targets to track Restless Development Uganda’s visibility
    including website and social media engagement
  • Share programmes outputs and research Findings in creative ways with
    our different audiences
  • Manage our brand, ensuring it is understood and used effectively by
    all staff and helps us achieve our goals and mission
Content Development
(25%)
  • Working mainly with the Programmes and Monitoring and Evaluation
    teams, develop content such as:
  • Video and photography (production and editing) to reach target
    audiences
  • Transcribe interviews and copy edit stories about our work for
    media, advocacy and fundraising purposes.
  • Distribute change stories and content to target audiences, tracking
    which content is successful
  • Keep track of key topics in the media to ensure our content and
    stories are timely and tap into current trends.
  • Ensure photo and video content is well maintained and stays updated
    across our channels.
  • Lead production design and distribution of innovative and high
    quality newsletters and annual report
  • Update our website with new and relevant information
  • Building programme staff capacity in story gathering and
    communications
Advocacy (20%)
  • Coordinate the voices of Restless Development Uganda in order to
    promote advocacy priorities identified by young people:
  • Represent Restless Development Uganda in identified external spaces,
    sometimes with others, providing effective and accurate information about
    our work
  • Build up the working relationships with different policy level
    stakeholders, media houses, and civil society
  • Engage in national level advocacy events and echo the voice of young
    people we work with
  • Be part of any influencing work our programme teams are focusing on
    and support with campaign planning
Other duties as
required (5%)
  • Uphold Restless Development’s values and act as a role model at all
    times
  • Track and share updates, trends and innovation on youth culture and
    youth development from Government, UN agencies, donors, movements and
    other key influencers to inform our work
  • Other team support
  • Occasional work on weekends may be required for which time off in
    lieu can be taken

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Restless Development Assistant Communications Coordinator job
    must hold a  graduate level degree or equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience of developing and implementing communication
    plans including advocacy, media and programmes
  • Two years of work experience in communications or relevant area
  • Proven experience of coordinating communication projects from design
    to completion including evaluating impact
  • Excellent writing, editing, designing and photography skills
  • Ability to read, synthesise information to produce clear, well
    written summaries
  • Experience in video editing and design – ideally with experience in
    Adobe software
  • Demonstrated social media experience at a high level
  • Personal commitment to Restless Developments vision and values
  • Passionate about young people
