University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College was
promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College trained
clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local
chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.
International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. The
Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the
College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s,
the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the
higher education – not only of clergy but of other professionals as well.
Uganda Christian University was established in 1997.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Ensures that all financial policies and procedures of the department
    are followed & adhered to.
  • Responsible for supervising computer operations and offers technical
    support.
  • The incumbent manages the preparation of annual budgets
  • Ensures that all statutory requirements such as NSSF, PAYE and Staff
    Savings are complied with.
  • Reviews unit budgets and assisting the bursar in the preparation of
    the Annual master budget.
  • Prepares budget variance analysis reports comparing actual
    expenditures with the budgets.
  • Supports the Bursar in the preparation of final accounts ready for
    external audit.
  • Overseer of the external audit functions and liaises with external
    auditors.
  • Ensures that the procurement and stores function are properly
    handled making sure selected suppliers provide value for money.
  • Responsible for carrying out verification of All Ledger Entries in
    SAP System.
  • Reconciles all control and payroll accounts to the general ledger.
  • Ensures proper and timely Accounts staff appraisal and follow up on
    any issues arising.
  • Follows up debtors for rent, fees and subscriptions from teaching
    centers and licensing fleet of vehicles
  • Assists in the establishment of the fixed assets register.
  • Identifies staff training needs for the department and recommending
    them to the Staff Development Committee for action.
  • Maintains the UCU Mbale staff gratuity database and processing staff
    bank loans.
  • Ensures that all pay cheques are remitted to the relevant banks and
    on time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must hold a Master’s degree of Science in
    Accounting and Finance /Business Administration /Masters of Commerce with
    a bias in Finance & Accounting from a recognized institution of higher
    learning.
  • Must have a Bachelors of Science in Accounting and Finance /Business
    Administration /Bachelors of Commerce with a bias in Finance &
    Accounting from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Must be pursuing a professional qualification such as ACCA or
    Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and at least at level 2.
  • Must have two (2) years working experience performing similar tasks
    in a busy organization.

OR
  • Must have a Bachelors of Science in Accounting and Finance /Business
    Administration /Bachelors of Commerce with a bias in Finance &
    Accounting from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • A professional qualification such as ACCA or Certified Public
    Accountant (CPA).
  • Postgraduate qualification in business or finance discipline will be
    an added advantage
  • At least two years of working experience performing similar tasks in
    a busy organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of Government/other Regulatory Laws, Policies
    and Procedures both Local and International regarding institutional
    financial management;
  • Knowledge of computerized Accounting packages like SAP.
  • Must possess high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision
