About UNV:
United Nations
Volunteers (UNV) Field Unit in Uganda is in the process of building a national
talent pool, to be used as the primary source of potential candidates for
various national UNV assignments.
Currently, there 10,495 Uganda nationals registered on the Global UNV talent
pool, however several profiles have not been updated for years. In order to
have a realistic overview of what is available in the pool and select the best
candidates in a shorter period of time, there is need to build a robust
national talent pool.

candidates in a shorter period of time, there is need to build a robust
national talent pool.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keenly review the existing candidate pool for Uganda; categorize
registered candidates as per different occupational categories following
the UNV Programme’s taxonomy. - Review candidates profiles under different categorized under
occupational categories high in demand and Uganda; request candidates to
update the online profiles (providing guidance on the missing
elements) - Create a talent pool line to tag vetted candidates under different
occupational categories - In consultation with UNV RO and UNV HQ, establish qualitative criteria
that candidates need to be added to the vetted pool. - Generate call for applications to strengthen the National Talent
Pool with an objective of engaging Uganda nationals as UN Volunteers
within and outside country. - Regularly review the National Talent Pool and provide suggestions to
improvise the system to ensure high quality profiles available at the
disposal of UN partners in Uganda.

- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of
volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take
active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark
International Volunteer Day); - Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of
volunteerism in the host country; - Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are
undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; - Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them
for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; - Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Youth
Volunteers; - Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or
encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV
Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Key Result Areas:
- Existing data is cleaned up and candidates are categorized as per
different occupation categories - UNV National Talent Pool is established as a repository of high
quality profiles to be engaged as UN Volunteers in Uganda - Establishment of a vetted roster of national UN Volunteer candidates
- Increase the number of profiles in the talent pool by 50%
- A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for
development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of
volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations UN Talent Pool Specialist
career opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Computer
Science, Human Resource or related field required - A minimum of three years of experience in database
management/administration. - Previous experience in designing outreach materials and use of
social media - Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve
others; - Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
- Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;
- Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
- Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures,
environments and living conditions; - Fluency in spoken and written English is required, and knowledge of
another UN language is an asset.
