founded in 1897 in Kampala, and is the oldest hospital in Uganda. It currently
serves as an urban community hospital that provides modern medical care. Mengo
Hospital provides comprehensive care including radiology, obstetrics,
dentistry, orthopedics, and surgery. Additionally, Mengo Hospital provides
critical training and education to health professionals through its various
programs in midwifery and nursing, health sciences, and laboratory technology.
Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated research and development team that works to
find new solutions to health issues in Uganda.

Job Summary: The Laboratory Technician will generate laboratory-based
accurate and dependable data necessary for effective management of patients,
disease surveillance and research.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide comprehensive laboratory services to the clients and takes
    necessary steps to ensure that all clients are treated with respect and
    dignity
  • Must ensure that adequate stocks of supplies and reagents are
    maintained.
  • Must be able to conduct and report on the tests based on laboratory
    request form and recorded client notes.
  • Ensures that the highest standards of laboratory services are
    provided to clients as per MOH guidelines.
  • Ensures that the laboratory complies with Infection Prevention
    Guidelines.
  • Ensures that laboratory test orders and results are properly
    recorded.
  • Ensure that timely monthly laboratory reports are forwarded to the
    Laboratory Manager.
  • Should have preventive maintenance of all equipment and ensure that
    their timely calibration and servicing.
  • Ensure that costs in the laboratory are contained within the
    approved annual budget, and that laboratory services meet targets planned.
  • Works closely with the Laboratory Manager towards the targets set by
    the organization.
  • Perform any other duties as may be delegated by the Laboratory
    Manager or supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicants should hold a Diploma in Medical Laboratory
    Techniques from a recognized institution.
  • He /she must be fully registered with the Uganda Allied Health
    Professionals Council.
  • A work experience of 2-3 years at the same level.
  • Ability to perform laboratory procedures efficiently and
    effectively.
  • A training in Laboratory Quality Management System and Biosafety
    will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work in deadline driven/results orientated atmospheres.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Results driven.
  • Basic computer skills
