Uganda Coffee
Development Authority was established as a public Authority, and its mandate is
to promote and oversee the coffee industry by supporting research, promoting
production, controlling coffee quality, and improving the marketing of coffee
in order to optimize foreign exchange earnings for the country and payments to
the farmers.
Job Summary:  The Technology Development Manager will
develop and monitor systems, policies, guidelines and procedures for
development and dissemination of coffee technologies, and represent UCDA on all
national coffee technology development matters.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Collaborate, link and liaise with Research Scientists and
    Institutions, and Academia on Technology development related programs and
    activities – NARO, NaCORI, IITA and Universities;
  • Provide technical guidance to Regional Managers, Regional Extension
    Officers and Regional Technical Officers on coffee technologies.
  • Prepare departmental budgets and plans, and manage all resources
    allocated to the coffee technology development delivery function.
  • Conduct retooling and training of all field staff in new
    technologies all over the country.
  • Monitor the surveillance program on identification, prevention and
    control of pests and diseases.
  • Compile and disseminate social economic and biological information
    to coffee related enterprises.
  • Initiate and identify new innovations that are beneficial to the
    coffee sub sector.
  • Plan and participate in coffee technology development programs.
  • Scan for new policy issues and/or technology development programs
    with respect to coffee.
  • Manage and coach the Regional Managers in the assigned Regions.
  • Provide periodic reports on Technology Development to the Director
    and Senior Management for review and guidance.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by Management.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold an Honours degree in any one of the
    following disciplines: Agriculture; Agriculture and Rural Innovation;
    Agribusiness Management; Agriculture Land use And Management; or relevant
    discipline.
  • Master of Science in any one of the following disciplines; Crop
    Science; Soil Science; Plant Breeding and Seed Systems; or relevant
    discipline.
  • At least ten (10) years’ working experience in an agricultural
    field, or agricultural research, five (5) years of which should have been
    at a supervisory level.
  • Strong Leadership and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of coffee research and technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain positive
    working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Strong resource mobilization.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Excellent customer care skills.
