The Infectious
Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a
partnership of infectious diseases
and public health specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to
strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through
Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five operational areas through which
it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training,
Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the
Makerere University – John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.
Job Summary:   The Senior Project Manager/ Coordinator will
provide overall leadership and oversee all technical, financial and
administrative aspects of the project as well as its monitoring and evaluation
and reporting elements. In addition, s/he will ensure project activities are in
compliance with the donors, Government’s and Infectious Diseases Institute’s
policies and procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Leadership, technical and administrative responsibility of program
    implementation.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to the Project team.
  • Overall partnership management including regular consultations with
    the National Action Plan for Health Security Steering Committee Chair,
    relevant Government of Uganda sectors leaders and key stakeholders and
    Uganda’s Global Health Security partners
  • Monitoring project team performance on agreed targets in specified
    time, including technical reporting to the National Action Plan for Health
    Security Steering Committee, donors and stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and tracking project expenditures and ensuring financial
    reports are submitted to donors in time.
  • Representation of the team and the project’s purpose and targets
    with all stakeholders

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in medicine, veterinary
    medicine, epidemiology, social science, public health and/or preventive
    medicine or related disciplines.
  • Master’s degree in one of the fields listed above is an added
    advantage.
  • Five years of successful management of public health program
    implementation/health systems strengthening projects.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the functioning of the Government of
    Uganda Health Care System.
  • Knowledge of International Health Regulations, Infectious Disease
    Surveillance and Response, Global Health Security Agenda, and Joint
    External Evaluation principles and purposes including objectives and
    targets of relevant technical areas.
  • Thorough understanding of the multi-sectoral and One Health
    approaches to achieving Global Health Security objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in successful collaboration with
    senior and high-ranking Government of Uganda officials and other public
    and private stakeholders.
  • Project planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation
    skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and written
    communication skills.
  • Experience supervising professional and support staff.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and innovation skills
