is a UK founded charity organization whose mission is to address global youth
unemployment and poverty by providing practical, relevant education to young
people in developing countries. We support schools to set up school businesses
which provide hands-on training and experience for pupils. This boosts quality
of education and employability – bridging the gap between education and the
workplace – so that students leave school with the right skills to get a good
job or run their own successful business. We are a small organisation with big
reach – since 2006 we have brought the pioneering school business model to more
than 100 countries, reaching over 80,000 beneficiaries and supporting them to
reach their full potential in work and in life. In 2017, through the School
Enterprise Challenge programme, Teach A Man To Fish worked in partnership with
16 partner NGOs to deliver the programme to 500+schools, impacting over 40,000
young people in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
Job Summary:  The SEC East Africa Program Officer will support
the delivery of our flagship programme, the School Enterprise Challenge (SEC)
in East Africa. The successful candidate will be based at our Kampala Office.  Reporting to the SEC East Africa Program
Manager, the post will play a vital role in delivering high quality reporting,
robust stewarding of partners across East Africa whilst ensuring the program
hits the set targets.  
You will possess
qualifications and strong background in program/project management, budget
management, excellent attention to detail and strong reporting skills. You will
be passionate about entrepreneurship, have an understanding of the context of
education in East Africa and align with Teach A Man To Fish’s organisational
values and mission.
The ideal candidate
will possess 3+ years’ experience in a Program Officer/Coordinator or similar
role and will be able to clearly demonstrate evidence of success in a relevant
role. A confident communicator and leader, you will steward key partnerships
across the region and represent the SEC programme at high-level meetings and
events. Experience in managing, monitoring or evaluating education programs in
East Africa will be an added advantage.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Liaise with Master Trainers or other
    staff members to deliver trainings across Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. This
    will be done in line with the agreed work plans whilst ensuring consistent
    high level of quality in delivery of trainings.
  • Capacity build SEC Team members to
    deliver high-quality trainings
  • Support East Africa Programme manager to
    adapt and develop training materials to context
  • Develop and steward a number of
    partnerships across Uganda and Kenya in order to expand the reach of the
    programme in line with targets. Support EA Programme Manager to implement
    robust and quality partnership management system.
  • Ensure Partnership Tracker updated
    accurately and in a timely manner and flag to SEC EA Programme Manager
    according to agreed deadline.
  • Deliver partner capacity-building
    workshops in line with work plan. Consult partners and feed into
    development of partner capacity-building programme
  • Manage GEC-T EGE consultancy. Ensure all
    EGE activities delivered on schedule to agreed targets with high level of
    quality. Steward partnership with Private Education Development Network
    (PEDN) and Opportunity International. Participate in monthly GEC
    consortium meeting.
  • Coordinate with field officers to ensure
    GEC monitoring visit tracker updated accurately and in a timely manner.
    Review for quality and flag to SEC EA Programme Manager in line with
    agreed deadlines.
  • Budget holder for UUAGTOI budget.
    Pro-actively manage budget, sign off staff requests against budget and
    ensure all activities delivered in line with budget. Input to development
    of annual programme budget.
  • Support M&E Officer by directly
    delivering a number of M&E activities according to the Work Plan
  • Manage, coach and empower Field
    Officers. Capacity build staff and manage performance.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Teach A Man
    To Fish SEC East Africa Program Officer job placement must hold a Bachelor’s
    degree in Education, Development, NGO management, Programme Management,
    Business Administration, Business or related studies.
  • Three years’ experience in either an
    NGO, social enterprise or corporate setting, with progressive levels of
    management responsibility
  • Two years of programme coordination  experience
  • Proven track record of delivering
    complex programmes in line with targets, budget and timeline
  • Line management experience of 2+ reports
  • Proven track record of developing and
    stewarding partnerships with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent reporting writing skills –
    capable of producing high quality reports free from grammatical errors –
    this will be tested at the interview.

  • Experience of working in or coordinating

  • Understanding of the education system in
    Uganda, Kenya and/or Tanzania
  • Experience of using and developing
    project management tools and trackers
  • Experience of business development or
    management in a commercial setting
