production.
Job Summary:  The GIS Engineer mainly coordinates the CUL’s
GIS: data gathering techniques, compilation, analysis, and distribution;
overall strategy; GIS Program management, GIS Database administration, System
administration; Hardware/software upgrades; Oversight of helpdesk GIS issues;
supervising GIS technicians; GIS budget and resources; Develop GIS applications
& programming and performs duties as required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Manages the acquisition and preparation of GIS data, to include
    spatial analysis, data integrity and high quality map production.
  • The jobholder supervises all GIS and Automated Mapping/Facilities
    Management (AM/FM) activities of CUL, to include needs assessment and
    support to other departments.
  • Develops robust yet flexible databases for the existing and new GIS
    layers.
  • Manages and administers GIS applications; introduces new technology
    and techniques
  • Prepares and  administers the
    GIS budget. (Recommends)
  • Supervises and evaluates the work performance of one or more GIS
    technicians. Provides training as needed.
  • Promotes inter agency (partners) cooperation in GIS projects.
  • Develops GIS strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Trouble-shoots and maintains systems; maintains professional
    relationships with software vendors.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the CNOOC Uganda GIS Engineer job
    opportunity should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree or above in
    Petroleum engineering, drilling and completion or the related.
  • Four years of related working experience.
  • Knowledge of basic petroleum engineering.
  • Knowledge to utilize ESRI’s ArcGIS software products
  • Familiarity with GPS technology, data collection, integration with
    GIS software
  • Ability to integrate GIS into operation workflows for the oil and
    gas industry
  • Familiarity with general PC hardware and software troubleshooting,
    including assistance to township PC users when necessary.
