Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization which is a
partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists. The overall
objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong emphasis on
Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI has five
operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention,
Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided
through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University
Core Lab) and Outreach.
psycho- social interventions to IDI supported health facilities in offering
quality counselling services to clients, their families and community members,
and to mobilize community members to respond to the HIV epidemic.
- Mentor and supervise health workers in the provision of quality and
comprehensive HIV counseling services to clients and their partners, and
other family members, communities and partners; - Provide support to health workers and volunteers in the process of
empowering clients with skills for self-reliance and making appropriate
succession plans; - Support establishment and maintenance of Provider Initiated
Counseling and testing (PICT) corners at all health facilities; - Coordinate and support health workers to plan and implement HIV
preventions interventions for key and priority populations; - The incumbent will also support health facilities in setting up peer
support groups and facilitating the support group meetings for special
populations of people living with HIV; - Support and strengthen skills of health workers to conduct
continuous quality improvement activities in relation to HIV/AIDS
prevention; - Support health workers and volunteers compile MoH reports and related
program reports; - Support and strengthen quality of CMES provided at the health
facilities; - Support health facilities in developing referral systems for clients
coordinate and support health facilities to scale up community
mobilization, sensitization and service delivery for HIV prevention
services; - Perform any other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to
time by the Team Leader-Technical Supervisory Teams.
- The applicant for the Counselor job must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in
any of the following fields; Social Sciences, Education, SWASA,
Development Studies, Community and Adult Education, Community Psychology,
Guidance and counseling or BSc. Nursing. - Evidence of having attended HIV counseling courses lasting at least
one month - Active registration with the relevant professional body
- One year of experience in HIV counseling in a busy clinical setting
- Mentorship, counseling, and communication skills
- Good computer skills
- Willingness to travel and provide care services at selected health
facilities and outreaches - Fluency of the local languages within the supported districts is
desirable. - Willingness to work and live in rural areas is required.
