is the largest and longest serving humanitarian agency in Uganda. Currently WFP
focuses on three priority areas: Saving lives in Emergencies; Building
Resilience through Predictable Safety Nets; Improving Nutrition &
Mother-and Child Health; and Supporting Small Holder Farmers to Access Markets.
WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.
Job Summary:  The Communications Assistant (Graphic Design)
will develop a suite of clear, high quality, innovative and visually appealing
printed materials and collateral targeting WFP’s key audiences, including
donors, partners, government and beneficiaries.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide branding and design support to WFP Uganda’s Communications
    unit in line with its communications strategy which establishes and
    strengthens WFP’s brand and raises awareness of its activities. 
  • Together with WFP’s communications, programme and donor relations
    teams – design and publish a comprehensive infobriefs on WFP’s core
    activities.
  • Assist WFP’s Uganda Country Office in delivering technical
    assistance to The Government of Uganda’s Ministry of Gender through
    sharing branding, design and communications knowledge and expertise which
    will strengthen Uganda’s social protection strategy.
  • Act as a brand guardian and advisor to WFP’s teams when it comes to
    developing visibility materials for the field.
  • Provide design support to the Communications Unit to compile and
    publish quarterly newsletters targeting donors, enhancing consistency of
    tone, style and design.
  • Contribute to WFP’s visibility and reputation through providing high
    quality and creative design of information products, distributed to target
    audience(s).
  • Liaise and interact with WFP staff and external counterparts to
    support aligned activities and a coherent approach to communications
    within WFP.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations UN World Food Programme
    (WFP) Communications Assistant (Graphic Design) job placement should hold
    a University degree in Graphic Design or equivalent
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a relevant area.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of graphic design and a high standard
    portfolio showing creative solutions.
  • Proficiency in using InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator and Quark
    Xpress software on Mac hardware.
  • Ability to work with a high level of independence
  • Has demonstrated an ability to perform routine communication
    techniques and activities in line with WFPs operating standards through
    day to day work
  • Has supported in providing ad-hoc guidance to new staff members
  • Language: High
    level proficiency in both oral and written English
Competencies:
  • Media and Influencer Relationship Management: Demonstrates ability to respond to and/or
    escalate needs of media and influencers within own scope of responsibility
    to raise the profile of WFP, build relationships and further
    organisational aims.
  • Media and Communication Expertise: Collates accurate and timely information presented in required
    format (i.e. written or visual materials) as well as verbally, to enable
    information flows and informed decision making on communications issues.
  • Specialised Knowledge in Communications: Exhibits specalised technical knowledge
    of communications channels processes, tools and techniques. In immediate
    area of responsibility, provides support in developing written, visual,
    audio and multi-media content for communications materials and suggestions
    for improved communications processes.
  • Sociopolitical Contextual Understanding: Shows awareness of the
    multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP
    operates which informs approach to daily tasks.
  • Communication Strategy and Planning: Demonstrates sound understanding of WFP
    communications strategy and effectively implements tailored media and
    communications plans which support the delivery of the strategy.
