Job Summary:  The Assessment Surveyor (Retainer) will
provide evidence based data for GIS officer from the Uganda Country. This data
will allow us to understand accessibility to social services:
  • The data will be used for Rural Access Index calculation
    (methodology to analyse the access to the road networks developed by the
    World Bank);
  • The data will be used to understand condition and accessibility of
    the road network and social infrastructure;
  • The data will be a collection of critical points, information on
    infrastructure conditions and functionality;
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
The position of
Assessment Surveyor encompasses the following major functions:-
  • Collect data on roads and social services infrastructures that help
    us understand the accessibility;
  • Have to understand the population dynamics and movement;
  • Develop an overview of the level of access to social infrastructure
    and the services they provide;
  • Analyse the functionality of the infrastructure (road and social
    services);
  • Conduct training for the local District engineers;
This exercise will
be useful to:
  • Demonstrate the distribution of social service delivery points
    within the determined area with a focus on facilities (health, education,
    markets, and other social services)
  • Understand the routes to access to services;
  • Provide the rationale for evidence-based planning and resource
    allocation by Area/County governments and partners,
  • Understand the local potential for growth and development,
  • Serve as an advocacy tool for results based programming and
    investment,
  • Develop a tool to measure the impact of the interventions.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations Office for Project
    Services (UNOPS) Assessment Surveyor (Retainer) job opportunity have
    completed Secondary education. Relevant professional diploma or Bachelor’s
    degree in Engineering, Information Management, Geographic Information
    Systems (GIS), computer sciences or any related area may be accepted in
    lieu of relevant years of experience (respectively).
  • Secondary education completed and a minimum of 4 years’ experience
    in surveying with GPS and/ or USING Geospatial applications is required;
  • Experience in use on android smartphone and its apps, computer
    software is required;
  • Experience in Mapping and cartographic concepts is desired;
  • Skills in GPS and surveying, Geospatial Information application and
    Data collection, validation and reporting, are required;
  • Languages: Fluency
    in written and oral English required
