the National Carrier of the Republic of Uganda based at Entebbe International
Airport. It is headquartered in Entebbe, Wakiso District, Uganda, and operates
from its hub in Entebbe International Airport. 
Job Summary:
The Manager Information Technology will head the IT section and will report to
the Director of Finance. He/She will be responsible for the strategic
development, management and operation of IT Systems across the airline’s
network, driving efficiency through the use of technology at all levels. The
Manager will also lead and motivate the IT team to deliver on IT solutions
required for a full service commercial airline.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Oversee all technology operations (e.g. sales and distribution
    platforms, network security, etc) and evaluate them according to
    established goals.
  • Devise and establish IT policies and systems to support the
    implementation of strategies set by management.
  • Work with senior management to identify, evaluate, procure and
    implement IT solutions and platforms as required for a commercial airline.
  • Analyze the business requirements of all departments to determine
    their technology needs.
  • Ensure purchase of efficient and cost effective technological
    equipment and software.
  • Inspect the use of technological equipment and software to ensure
    functionality and efficiency.
  • Identify the need for upgrades, configurations or new systems and
    report to management for necessary action.
  • Develop an ICT strategy which identifies the future direction and
    use of technology within the organisation to meet operating requirements
    and drive efficiencies.
  • Create a vision for ICT within the airline, communicate it to
    employees and lead and motivate the team to achieve the vision.
  • Provide advice to Executive Management and the Board on the
    application and use of ICT to provide excellent services working closely
    with the senior management team to overcome business challenges with the
    use of technology.
  • Identify solutions and opportunities to improve organizational
    performance, prepare and present proposals, design and deliver solutions
    to meet customer’s objectives.
  • Be the ICT champion, promote and implement innovative solutions to
    operational challenges and apply a structured methodology to implement
    project plans to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Plan, control and manage project resources and budget and ensure
    structures for data/disaster recovery.
  • Procure, negotiate, manage and monitor contracts for ICT services
    provided by third parties, ensuring effective service delivery.
  • Manage relationships with contractors, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of
    Gateway’s corporate strategies, annual project plans, policies and
    procedures.
  • Ensure effective management of the ICT departmental staff and
    resources promoting team building and collaborative working to deliver the
    corporate plan
  • Provide timely, clear, succinct and coherent reports to Board and
    management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including the Computer
    Misuse Act, the Data Protection and Health & Safety Acts (as
    applicable to IT usage).

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Uganda Airlines Manager Information
    Technology job placement must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
    or closely related area.
  • IT Practitioner with demonstrated airline IT systems experience or
    expertise in related areas.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of current and developing ICT
    technologies and business application.
  • Knowledge of Airline IT system is desired.
  • E-commerce awareness.
  • Ability to recognize business opportunities and present a clear
    strategic vision of how technology can be applied to achieve success.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to explain complex IT information clearly to ‘lay’ managers
    and other stakeholders.
  • Highly proactive and motivated.
  • Proven track record at senior level of leading staff within an IT
    environment, preferably in airline and hospitality industry.
  • Successful track record of implementation with delivery on time and
    to budget.
  • Experience in contract management, negotiation and monitoring.
  • Effective in working within teams and individually with ability to
    grasp and manage new complex IT systems.
  • Commitment to front line service delivery and responsiveness to
    commercial needs.
