Job Summary:  The Mid wife will facilitate deliveries and
provide nursing care to mothers and their babies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Examining and monitoring pregnant women
  • Assessing care requirements and writing care plans
  • Undertaking antenatal care in hospitals, homes and GP practices
  • Providing information, emotional support and reassurance to women
    and their partners
  • Taking patient samples, pulses, temperatures and blood pressures
  • Caring for and assisting women in labour
  • Monitoring and administering medication, injections and intravenous
    infusions during labour
  • Monitoring the foetus during labour
  • Advising about and supporting parents in the daily care of their
    newborn babies
  • Helping parents to cope with miscarriage, termination, stillbirth
    and neonatal death
  • Writing records
  • Tutoring student midwives
  • Identifying high-risk pregnancies
Key Outputs:
  • Patients received; admissions, deliveries, discharges and deaths
    registered;
  • Antenatal care carried out;
  • High risk cases for referral identified;
  • Provide care during labour with emphasis to prevention of
    complications to mother and baby;
  • Care during puerperium provided;
  • Mothers sensitized about benefits of breast feeding and recommended
    diet;
  • Bedside nursing procedures carried out;
  • Medical supplies and sundries requisitioned and accounted for;
  • Staff supervised and appraised; and
  • Daily ward reports compiled and submitted

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must be trained at a Registered Midwife level
    from a recognized Institution.
  • Must be registered and licensed with the Nurses and Midwives
    Council.
  • At least two years of experience in facilitating deliveries and
    provide nursing care to mothers and their babies.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
