rural Africa. We work to increase the incomes and improve food security of
smallholder farmers, pastoralists, agro-pastoralists, and forest dwellers in
East Africa. A core part of our strategy is to ensure that our interventions
are both economically sustainable and scalable. The systematic integration of
market linkages in implementing programmes is crucial to our ability to scale
our interventions cost-effectively. Farm Africa has the ambition to be the
leading European NGO specialising in Agriculture, Natural Resource Management
and Market Engagement.
Job Summary:  Farm Africa Uganda is rapidly expanding and
anticipate requiring the services of a variety of technical experts to support
the delivery of our growing portfolio of projects over the coming months and
years.  We are therefore requesting
senior level experts interested in both short-term and long-term consulting
opportunities with Farm Africa Uganda to submit their details for consideration
for forthcoming assignments. We anticipate requiring support in a number of
diverse areas, primarily focusing on smallholder engagement in agricultural
value chains and agribusiness. 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Agribusiness and Smallholder Agriculture Experts must possess
    post graduate degrees or equivalent in Agriculture, Agricultural
    Economics, Agribusiness Management, Business Administration, Rural
    Development/Livelihoods, or another relevant field;
  • In-depth knowledge of the agricultural sector in Uganda,
    particularly experience with regards to supporting the commercialisation
    of smallholder agriculture
  • At least eight years of experience working within the smallholder
    agriculture and agribusiness sectors in East Africa, four years’ of which
    must have been in Uganda
  • Working on large scale grant funded programmes or commercial
    contracts focusing on key agricultural value chains in Uganda
  • Experience in designing projects or interventions that support
    smallholder farmers or small-scale producers to commercialise their
    operations
  • Delivering (or overseeing delivery of) technical assistance to a
    variety of different stakeholders within the agricultural value chain
    including producer organisations, off-takers and SMEs
  • Experience in using a wide range of different tools and approaches
    to promote the participation of young people, women, and people with
    disabilities in agriculture and agribusiness
  • Delivering (or overseeing delivery of) business development services
    to agribusinesses.
Skills
  • Excellent IT skills, and in particular the ability to manage and
    manipulate large, complex budgets using Excel
  • Ability to identify areas of weakness and support capacity
    development amongst both project teams and external stakeholders such as
    producer organisations and SMEs
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral, with the ability
    to distil complex information into accessible language
