About US:
The MRC/UVRI Uganda
Virus Research Unit on AIDS was established following a request in 1988 from
the Uganda Government to the British Government for collaboration on the
research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired
Immunodeficiency. The Unit is a center of excellence in HIV/AIDS related
research. It conducts large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies, clinical
trials, virological and immunological research and behavioural studies, and has
generated a wealth of research results that have been used to inform policy and
practice that have led to a large number of scientific publications in peer
reviewed journals over time.
Job Summary:  The Data Manager will provide data management
support to CoVAC and other ongoing studies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Programme ODK questionnaires on to tablets
  • Advise and set-up data IDs, linkages, and ID cards
  • Further develop and operationalise CoVAC DMP and SOPs
  • Train interviewers/study staff on data management and on the use of ODK
  • Support on IT for field data collection – i.e. provision of internet
    providers and equipment for the field.
  • Develop data management automated systems (e.g. using ODK 2.0)
  • GPS co-ords – link with software for geo mapping

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Medical Research Council (MRC) UK /
    UVRI) Data Manager job placement must hold a bachelor’s or higher degree in
    Computer science, Information Technology, Quantitative Economics,
    Statistics or equivalent. (Exceptionally, we may consider candidates with
    extensive experience but no BSc.)
  • At least two years of experience working as the main Data Manager on
    a clinical study
  • Excellent ODK Programming skills
  • Excellent STATA programming skills
  • Knowledge of MYSQL data Bases, XML programming.
  • Willing to move to the field occasionally
  • Good attention to detail
