Job Summary:   The Market Development Manager will lead and
manage processes to develop and implement growth opportunities for Barclays
Africa Group Limited’s MCR function within and between organizations. Market
development will create long-term value for Barclays Bank of Uganda Limited from
customers, markets, and relationships in alignment with the business units i.e.
Retail, Corporate and Treasury, to deliver to the business objectives through a
tailored strategy. He/she will lead the market planning as well as drive the
planning, execution and reporting of Market development, Events, Sponsorships
and Customer promotions for Consumer and CIB. He/ she will execute Customer,
Product and Brand research activities and provide Consumer insights into
Product development and segment customer value propositions. In conjunction
with Citizenship function, leverage our Shared Growth agenda to forge
partnerships and grow  business; and the
with Communications,  PR and Media function,
to implement and communicate Barclays Bank of Uganda strategy around CIB and
Consumer, whilst building the bank’s profile and image within the Ugandan
market. The Market Development Manager will be responsible for customer
engagement sessions, road shows, focus group discussions, product launches,
forums/seminars etc. He/she will manage the marketing budget for CIB and
Consumer in conjunction with the Brand Manager as guided by the Head of
Marketing and Corporate Relations He/she will provide marketing analytics,
measure return on investment for marketing spend, provide comprehensive
competitor intelligence to business and identify opportunities for growth
ensuring delivery of marketing priorities within the governance and operating
frameworks The Market Development Manager will be the events custodian for the
business and act as local point of contact for all sponsorships.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Market Development:
35 %
  • Provide and manage annual marketing plan with clear direction and
    objectives
  • Work with Insights to conduct and provide customer insights to
    business
  • Execute research on customer satisfaction and Brand performance
    e.g., through customer survey, mystery shopping, and Brand Health check,
    being the point of contact for local research companies.
  • Management of risk, governance, compliance and controls issues
    within the team
  • Continuously conduct market and competitor analysis for Local &
    Barclays Africa management information.
  • Oversee the MCR business unit’s periodic reporting on activities
    including budget tracking.
  • Monitor competitor marketing activities and produce a report on
    impact and actions to protect market share on a monthly basis.
  • Ensuring all negotiations and leverage are aligned with business and
    target market needs and reflect best practice sponsorship
  • Managing the leverage sponsorship planning process
  • Identify strategic sponsorship properties and customise them to
    align with company objectives
  • Customer satisfaction and Brand performance research
Campaign
Management: 35%
  • Continuously determine customer segmentation basis and recommend
    suitable marketing programmes to target and sustain viable segments
  • Provide input/ advise to agency’s production of advertising content
    and briefs
  • Provide quality management information, suggesting marketing
    strategies and implementation schedule
  • Provide support and insights for development of products in Barclays
    Uganda Retail and  CIB sectors
  • Support RMs by providing them with the relevant survival toolkits
  • Work closely with CIB and Retail to develop Barclays Uganda customer
    propositions
  • Work with Insights to conduct and provide customer insights to
    business.
  • Drive and ensure all processes, governance and budgets are adhered
    to, driving successful delivery of all requirements.
  • Oversee the delivery of data analysis to plan and implement targeted
    Direct Marketing activities.
  • Build clear measurable targets into campaign plans, ensuring
    accurate reporting
External
Relationships – Provide leadership – 15%
  • Build and manage strong working links with key stakeholders and fit
    seamlessly with their processes
  • Provide clear direction of marketing objectives by translating
    business performance objectives and measures into clear, concise
    communications
  • Provide leadership to the business on particular marketing
    initiatives such as customer events and campaigns
  • Relation management of local research agencies
  • Accountability and budget control
  • Ensuring top notch organisational representation at all sponsorships
    i.e. branding and attendance
  • Review sponsorship proposals and forge partnerships
  • Ensuring that all sponsorships are aligned with the brand attributes
  • Monitor competitor marketing activities
Team and Supplier
Management – 15%
  • Prepare and put in place a stakeholders’ list/matrix and respective
    SLAs
  • Build and manage strong working links with key stakeholders and fit
    seamlessly with their processes
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with Retail, Corporate,
    HR, Treasury and service delivery functions
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationship with Insights
  • Relationship management of media companies ( print, electronic and
    outdoor) in conjunction with the central team
  • Relationship management of co-sponsors on events/ projects
  • Relationship management of Retail, Corporate, HR, Treasury and
    service delivery functions
  • Annual marketing plans including campaigns designed for specific segments
    that  are value -based and aligned
    to strategy execution
  • Campaign cycle management- Timely delivery of high volumes of
    campaigns and promotions through the campaign management process that
    enhance offerings uptake and affinity
  • Manage the translation of the business requirements of the Business
    Unit into ‘world class’, customer centric campaigns aligned to operational
    budgets measuring ROI
  • Decision making to determine the best course of action for each
    segment and persuasive recommendations are to be made to key stakeholders
    to ensure effective activity at all times.
  • Team coherence  within the
    marketing unit to ensure operational efficiency

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Barclays Bank Market Development Manager job
    placement must hold a Marketing degree
  • Evidence of experience (at least 3 years) in delivering world class/
    complex marketing campaigns
  • Evidence of successfully managing internal and external partner
    relationships.
