Job Summary:  The Director of Programme Development and
Quality shares in the overall responsibility for the development and resourcing
of the Country Office program. The DPDQ is responsible for overseeing the
development of high quality, innovative programs that deliver immediate and
lasting change for children and monitoring the quality of the implementation of
those programs. The DPDQ develops effective relationships with internal and
external stakeholders ensuring optimal development and resourcing of our
programmatic interventions. The DPDQ is a member of the Senior Management Team
(SMT) and as such responsible to provide overall strategic support to the
Country Office in Uganda.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Save the Children Director of Programme
    Development and Quality career placement should hold a Master’s
    degree in Social Sciences, or related field.
  • Five to seven years of management experience in a corporate or an
    NGO environment, including experience directing and implementing programs
    for children in both development and emergency contexts, preferably with
    solid experience in more than one of the Save the Children priority
    sectors: education, child protection, health and nutrition, child poverty/livelihoods
    and child rights governance.
  • Good understanding of humanitarian response and preferably
    demonstrated work experience with NGO in this context.
  • Recognized leadership role in relevant technical areas at both field
    and country level
  • Solid experience of developing and managing monitoring and learning
    systems.
  • Excellent analytical skills. Effective negotiator, with the ability
    to positively influence cross departmental and cross sector working
  • Credibility to lobby, influence and represent Save the Children at
    all levels
  • Resource management, training , capacity building, coaching, and
    mentoring skills
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible in work practices and hours,
    and work with incoming teams.
  • Show commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims,
    values and principles including rights-based approaches
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively in country
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, excellent writing skills
