international institutional investors. Umeme operates under a concession with a
structural monopoly in the distribution of electricity across Uganda,
distributing 99% of electricity in Uganda through a single buyer model.
Job Summary:  The SAP BASIS Administrator will ensure that
all SAP environments are maintained to a high level of operational excellence
in accordance with SAP best practices. The SAP BASIS Administrator will be
responsible for:
  • The administration of all SAP environments and instances, ensuring
    their optimal performance and availability. Administration includes
    configuration, transport management, monitoring, tuning and
    troubleshooting.
  • Ensuring that changes are implemented in line with the change
    control process and the execution of backup and recovery processes
  • Performs system sizing, architecture and design of the technical
    landscape down to the level of hardware layout according to SAP best
    practices and recommendations.
  • Manages upgrade processes including functional and technical
    specifications.
  • Provides support to the end user. 
  • Handles new installs, upgrades and maintenance. Integration of SAP
    with other systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Allocate associated hardware resources to the SAP applications and
    databases to ensure they are operating correctly and have a high level of
    resilience and performance.
  • Plan and implement periodic maintenance to ensure the optimal
    performance of all SAP related systems and databases.
  • Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to
    enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
  • Proactively monitor the SAP systems with EarlyWatch to ensure secure
    services with minimum downtime
  • Reviews projects and recommends availability and usability of SAP
    in-house tools to support requirements
  • SAP system checks (monitoring) to enhance performance and
    proactively deal with any potential failures
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving of all SAP
    Productions (PRD), Quality Assurance (QA) and Development (DEV)
    environments.
  • Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the environments
    including patch management and upgrades.
  • Responsible for implementation and release of database changes
    according to agreed timescales and change control.
  • Responsible for SAP portal integration and availability
  • Ensuring that all transports between DEV and QA and PRD environments
    are fully documented and take place in accordance with the approve change
    control processes.
  • Assist with the maintenance of Authorizations as required
  • Responsible for the scheduling and maintaining of automated backup
    and recovery processes and activities for all SAP systems on an hourly and
    daily basis
  • Design, implement and action the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP)
    relating to the SAP environments so that they are accurate and up to date
    and systems can be recovered in a timely manner when required
  • Regular QA & DEV data refreshes
  • Provide functional users with support through troubleshooting
    errors, dumps and system failures
  • Reviews bugs, investigates issues, proposes solutions, liaise with
    SAP and apply fixes
  • Investigate SAP notes and log calls with SAP and follow through on
    outcomes and solutions
  • Deals with logged support calls as related to technical issues on
    SAP for end users
  • Sizing of hardware in terms of CPU, memory and drive layouts
    according to SAP recommendations to ensure optimal performance of the
    systems
  • Import and export of systems following SAP system copy guides which
    can also lead to defragmented databases
  • Migration to new versions of OS and Database
  • Design of server layout for distributed installations

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Umeme SAP BASIS Administrator job
    vacancy must hold a Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • SAP BASIS Certification (SAP HANA)
  • At least ten years of experience in SAP BASIS Administration
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP Solution Manager
  • Detailed SAP Database Administration experience.
  • Experience of managing multiple SAP environments including upgrades
  • Experience of Transport management and batch job scheduling
    procedures.
  • Practical experience  in
    monitoring and tuning a SAP environment and database to provide a high
    availability service and the configuration and use of EarlyWatch
  • Working experience of SAP Authorizations
  • Extensive experience of systems copies 
  • Working knowledge of SAP Fiori
