of lives of disadvantaged people living in urban and rural areas in Uganda and
in the Great Lakes Region. InterAid Uganda is focused on its thematic areas of
Rights Protection, Education, Livelihood & Food Security, Health
(HIV&AIDS; Malaria; Maternal and Reproductive Health), Water, Sanitation
& Hygiene (WASH), Environment and Disaster Management and good Management
and Governance systems.
Job Summary:
The Health Information System (HIS) Officer will develop, maintain and update
the health information systems at IAU
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Strategic
Direction:
Provide support in
the enhancement, development and implementation of the Health Information
System (HIS)
Process Management:
  • Design format for field data collection and to ensure all health and
    nutrition information is consolidated and represented in to facilitate
    analysis.
  • Identify service and user needs for the current systems and propose
    innovative ideas and developments
  • Develop processes to ensure system performance during key reporting
    periods.
  • Maintain data backup and archival procedures.
  • Provide pre-emptive support through documentation and training.
  • Report software bugs, user suggestions and incident information
  • Ensure timely data entry of all health related project data
  • Periodically undertake field trips to monitor HIS related activities
    by cross checking the data collection, compilation, entry and storage in
    the system.
  • Verify the authenticity and accuracy of the data reported.
  • Support in the designing and development of data architecture and
    models that integrate tool and reporting needs for all health related
    cases
  • Help in training the new staff in health and nutrition information
    system formats and make sure that all concerned people at health facility
    level understand the reporting system.
  • Conduct regular refresher training for existing users of the HIS
  • Compiling weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and specific activity
    reports and ensure timely submission
  • Revise and enter weekly and monthly reports into health and
    nutrition data base and ensure that all information entered is correct and
    valid.
  • Analyze health and nutrition information data, make reports against
    the indicators of the section and illustrate the achievement for each
    month and quarter.
  • Working effectively as team member and solve staff problems whenever
    occur.
  • Report outbreaks identified immediately
Risk Management: Identifying, assessing and developing strategies
to mitigate against risks that may happen in the section.
Compliance: Complying with policies and procedures during
the implementation of activities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the InterAid Uganda Limited (IAU) Health
    Information System (HIS) Officer job opportunity should preferably hold
    a Bachelor’s  degree in
    Computer science, Information Technology or equivalent from a recognized
    institution
  • Four years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing health information systems
    in a complex environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the
    ability to train users at various skill levels in health information
    systems.
  • Skills in databases design and data integration.
  • Skills in programming language i.e. Java and Java script.
  • Skills in DHIS2, HMIS and data management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, result oriented and
    capacity-building skills.
  • Ability to work and deliver under intense pressure.
  • Good report writing skills
