appliances to households and businesses in Uganda. The company started in 2011
and has since opened 47 branches throughout Uganda, 12 more branches in Kenya,
and employs over 800 people.
Job Summary: The
Legal, Compliance and Risk Officer (LCR Officer) follows-up on all legal issues
by liaising with legal counsel and/or company lawyer. In addition, the officer
ensures the company is compliant with internal policies and procedures, but
also with relevant local and international regulations.  Finally, the officer minimizes and mitigates
risks the company might be exposed to.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supports the Management Team in handling complex transactional
    matters and ongoing commercial contracts.
  • Supports the Management Team in maintaining corporate records and
    minute books, coordinating matters relating to board and shareholders
    meetings, preparing materials for such meetings, and preparing related
    minutes, written consents, etc.
  • Supports the Management Team with respect to periodic Govt. Of
    Uganda regulatory reporting
    .
  • Supports the Management Team in formation or dissolution of legal
    entities and other routine corporate legal matters.
  • Supports the Management Team with respect to contract drafting,
    coordination of approvals, signatures, and notarization of document and
    implementation.
  • Supports the Management Team in performing compliance audits of
    internal Corporate Policies and Procedures as well as relevant local and
    international environmental, social and governance (ESG) regulations
  • Supports the Management Team with processing Work Permits for
    internaltional staff
  • Liaises with external legal partners on registering finacial
    instruments,debt collection,arbitration, civil and criminal litigation.
  • Conducts legal research as needed.
  • Participates in special projects as needed, such as Mergers &
    Acquisitions and other corporate strategic initiatives, including
    preparing and organizing documents, due diligence support, and liaising
    with third parties.
  • Works with Management team and staff in other corporate departments
    on assigned projects.
  • Follows up on outstanding legal matters;
  • Supports the Management Team to Investigate and Audit potential
    cases of fraud;
  • Develops and proposes Legal, Compliance and Risk mitigation policies
    where needed;
  • Ensure risk mitigation measures are in place and are up to date
    (e.g. insurance).
  • Offers legal advice and support in all operations of the company

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
  • The ideal candidate for the SolarNow Legal, Compliance and Risk
    Officer (LCR Officer) job placement should preferably hold a Bachelor of
    Law (LLB)
  • Diploma in Legal Practice
  • One to three years of experience in a legal practice; Registered
    Attorney
  • Previous experience in law practice with reputable law firm or in
    similar position with a reputable company.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and Acts
  • Candidate should  pay keen
    attention to detail should be assertive
  • Candidate should be passionate and self-motivated.
  •  Ability to deliver work
    projects on time.
  • Must possess the highest level of professionalism and
    confidentiality
  • Independent; Person of integrity; meticulous; analytical; eye for
    detail.
  • Flexibility, able to adapt to change while managing multiple
    assignments and willingness to assist in other areas as needed – must be a
    team player
  • Exhibits strong written and verbal communication skills.
