over 30 years.  Ambassador Deborah R. Malac currently heads the U.S
Mission to Uganda.  The Mission is composed of several offices and
organizations all working under the auspices of the Embassy and at the
direction of the Ambassador. 
Among the offices
operating under the U.S Mission to Uganda are:
  • United States Agency for International
    Development (USAID)
  • Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
  • Peace Corps 
Job Summary: The
Mailroom Clerk will be supporting the day-to-day operations of the DPO and
Diplomatic Pouch and Mail. Ensuring the proper transportation of pouch and mail
between the Embassy and Airport. The incumbent will also be tasked with dispatching,
receiving and distributing all diplomatic pouches and DPO Mail. Receiving and
sending international registered and local mail. Preparing and submitting
billing reports to the FMO and other Embassy agencies as required. Screening
local and international mail for hazardous substances.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
DPO and
Unclassified Pouch Operations:
·        
Assist
mailroom clerks in the handling of mail and unclassified pouches as specified
in DPO and DPM regulations.
·        
As
needed, assists clerks with the following: customer service; preparation of
insured, certified, and return receipts for customers;
·        
Tasked
with the delivery and retrieval of DPO mail and unclassified pouch to and from
airport;
·        
Distribution
of incoming mail according to DPO and DPM regulations;
·        
In
charge of the maintenance of current files of insured and certified mail
received;
·        
In
charge of the maintenance of current files of items received via unclassified
pouch; insurance that custom clearance procedures are followed;
·        
In
charge of the maintenance of DPO and DPM-eligible customer database, including
mail forwarding procedures; notification of DPO and DPM users when they have
insured/certified/registered mail to retrieve from the mailroom;
·        
Tasked
with the preparation of AV-7s; submits all DPO and DPM related/requested
reports as necessary in a timely manner.
·        
Performs
consolidation of daily USPS and ILMS transactions and forwards data as
necessary. Maintains records of all financial transactions and checks that mail
room and contents are secured and assumes legal and financial responsibility
for accountable equipment, to include USPS supply stocks and Unclassified pouch
bags, tags, and labels.
·        
This

Clerk will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any
other duties requested by his or her Agency.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
NOTE:  All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed

The
applicants for the US Embassy Mail Clerk job opportunity should hold a High
School diploma
·        
One year
of clerical office experience or customer service is required.
·        
Extensive
knowledge of FAM/FAH, USPS regulations and Embassy procedures regarding DPO and
mail services.
·        
Good
computer skills and knowledge of the State Department’s ILMS program for
recording mail transactions and tracking its movement. Plus, understand the
proper safeguarding and handling of classified pouches and escort duties
outlined in 14 FAM 700. Proficiency of Microsoft suite is required.
·        
Ability
to perform duties that involve walking, standing, carrying and lifting mailbags
up to 70lbs is required.
·        
Excellent
interpersonal skills are required.
·        
Ability
to be a team player and adapt to changing priorities.
·        
Ability
to acquire and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance
·        
Language
Proficiency:
Level IV
(Speaking/Reading/Writing) English is required.
