Maize Millers Ltd is a reputable milling company that started its activities in
2010 and got dully registered in May 2011. The company has acquired substantial
experience and has excelled in the production and supply of quality maize,
beans, rice, Maize flour and maize bran to corporate organizations, Schools,
NGO and interested individuals. The company also deals in stocking and supply
of produce like maize, beans, rice, Maize flour and maize bran to interested
parties.
           
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Tasked with training the selected lead farmers/change agents in Good
    Agronomic Practices (GAAP), Post-Harvest Handlings (PHH), Store operation
    and management, Governance and business farming
  • Work closely with Area Cooperative Societies (ACEs) and Rural
    Producer
  • Organizations (RPOs) to assess their needs and identify capacity
    gaps in their knowledge, skills and/or service provision for training
    purpose
  • Carry out assessments that analyse the market system to understand
    the opportunities and emerging patterns of behaviours and uncover root
    causes to the underperformance of agricultural production in the area
  • Responding to farmers requests by providing agricultural information
    and advice
  • Actively implement and promote farming and development programmes
    aimed at reaching the last farmers or those who have little access to
    information
  • Formulate and implement activities that strengthen
    agricultural/rural extension and provide technical assistance in capacity
    development of agriculture innovation systems
  • Prepare advocacy materials and documents to support the
    strengthening of agriculture innovation systems and support services.
  • Provide technical advice on design elements to strengthen and reform
    extension systems
  • The Agricultural Extension Officers communicate with farmers,
    supporting decision-making by providing information on sustainable farming
    practices.
  • Information about biodiversity is increasingly important to help
    farmers farm sustainably and access new markets. Agricultural Extension
    Officers propagate new, more effective farming methods based on the latest
    research. This may include research on how to farm with nature for good
    results now and in future.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant must hold a university degree in Agribusiness,
    Agronomy, Agricultural extension, Organic agriculture or Development
    studies with a bias in Agriculture
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in Extension
    services with international NGOs working with farming communities or
    private agri-businesses (input dealers and other Value added service
    providers).
  • Previous experience in managing partnership will be an added
    advantage.
  • Solid experience in mobilization and organization of cooperative
    societies
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage.
  • Computer literacy with good knowledge of office applications and
    data base is required.
  • Knowledge in M&E is added advantage
  • Ability to work independently and with less supervision.
  • Track record demonstrating high integrity, reliability and
    dependable
  • Willingness to spend much time in the field and work closely with
    program target groups.
  • Applicants must hold a valid riding permit.
