About Project:
Light for the World is
implementing a 2-year project funded by the Big Lottery Fund: the Livelihoods
Improvement Challenge (LIC), which is implemented in Uganda and Tanzania. The
LIC project puts young persons with disabilities in the lead to work on
innovative solutions to address issues around access to skills development and
employment for persons with disabilities. One of the initiatives that was
developed under the LIC is Make 12.4% Work, that aims at triggering private and
civil society actors to open employment opportunities and program to persons
with disabilities.
Job Summary: The Project
Officer Disability Inclusion will be responsible to guide and support a team of
young persons with disabilities (Disability Inclusion Facilitators) in their
engagement with employers and development organizations. This engagement aims
at them becoming more inclusive as organizations and include persons with
disabilities as employees and in their livelihoods programs. The project
officer will also follow up on other partnerships and solution development
under the LIC.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Project Implementation:
  • Support
    the recruitment of companies and development organizations to become part
    of Make 12.4% Work
  • Guide
    and support the Disability Inclusion Facilitators in each of their steps
    of engagement with the companies and development organizations, including
    training on disability awareness and disability inclusive programming,
    disability inclusion assessments, action plan development and monitoring
    and coaching
  • Support
    the Disability Inclusion Facilitators with documentation of their actions
    as well as key successes and challenges
  • Support
    the development, testing and refinement on a mobile application on
    disability inclusion
  • Provide
    administrative support to the project and be able to prepare
    accountability
Project monitoring: Conduct regular field monitoring on
disability inclusion and take action accordingly.
Reporting: Support accurate and timely data collection
and reporting as requested by the line manager and supervisor by Light for the
World.
Communication and coordination
  • Close
    contact with Disabled Persons Organizations, members of the government,
    employers and their umbrella organisations, development organizations
    active in livelihoods activities, local implementing partners and VET
    providers to coordinate inclusion of youth with disabilities in line with
    the programme standards.
  • Actively
    share experiences, and good practices on social media platforms that are
    active under the Make 12.4% Work Initiative
  • Perform
    other duties as required

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The
    applicant must hold a Degree in Development Studies, Human Rights,
    Community Based Rehabilitation or related field.
  • Four
    years of experience as project officer, and affinity with disability
    mainstreaming processes and programmes (local/national).
  • In-depth
    understanding of and practical experience in including youth with
    disabilities in mainstream skills development programs, employment
    opportunities and livelihood development.
  • Experience
    with facilitating and training diverse group of people
  • Knowledge
    of and experience with Project Cycle Management.
  • Strong
    knowledge of MS Office and social media applications.
  • Reflect
    the vision and values of Light for the World with staff, beneficiaries,
    external contacts.
  • Strong
    working knowledge of English, spoken and written.
  • Highly
    developed organizational, liaison and communication skills.
  • Strong
    facilitation and training skills of different audiences (e.g. youth,
    government officials, employers).
  • Ability
    to work effectively as part of a team and with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent
    interpersonal, cultural and diplomatic skills.
  • Able
    to multi-task, set priorities, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Fast
    learner, self-reflective and willingness to receive feedback and
    supervision.
  • Ability
    to relate inclusion and disability to personal values.
