of Uganda Finance Trust Limited (MDI). Finance Trust Bank is a fully-fledged
commercial bank serving a clientele of over 400,000 depositors and over 23,000’
borrowers, through a network of 36 branches countrywide. The bank offers a
variety of Products and services including; Savings, Current accounts, Loans,
Money transfer services and Bills payments to its target market which comprises
of micro, small and medium entrepreneurs, salary earners and youth.
Job Summary: The Legal
Manager will ensure that all activities of the institution comply with the laws
of Uganda and protect the institution against civil and criminal actions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Work
    in liaison with the Head of Department, develop and maintain legal
    policies and procedures for Finance Trust.
  • In
    liaison with the Head of Department, develop and maintain the annual plan
    for the legal function.
  • Work
    closely with the Head of Department, design the disaster recovery strategy
    for the legal function
  • Design
    litigation strategies and procedures, institute legal proceedings on
    behalf of the company in line with the legal policy, under the guidance of
    the Corporation Secretary.
  • Upon
    instruction from the Head of Department, attend all Board and Management
    meetings and where required, record proceedings of the meetings.
  • Draft
    and peruse contracts and design legal instruments as may be required by the
    Bank
  • Upon
    instruction, represent the institution in the courts of law, arbitration
    proceedings and other fora in line with the legal provisions
  • Together
    with the Company Secretary, review all contracts before they are signed in
    line with the relevant legal provisions and legal policy.
  • Interpret
    legislation and regulations governing Finance Trust and provide legal
    advice to management and staff
  • Provide
    oversight over recoveries of stuck and written off loans in line with
    legal provisions providing the required legal guidance to the Debt
    Recovery function and monitor the performance of the approved debt
    collectors
  • Supervise
    and manage the performance of the legal staff and provide periodic reports
    to the Head of Department
  • Mentor
    and train staff of Finance Trust in basic legal procedure.
  • Ensure
    registration of the Bank’s intellectual property rights in line with the
    legal provisions.
  • Prepare
    management reports of the legal function in line with the operational
    plans.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The
    applicant for the Finance Trust Bank Legal Manager job placement should
    hold a     Bachelor of laws,
  • Diploma in legal practice,
  • Enrolled as an advocate of the high court and
    sub-courts,
  • An up to date practicing certificate (renewed
    annually)
  • Four years of work experience in a related
    senior position
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Good sense of self drive and business acumen.
  • Good personal presentation skills.
