Job Summary: The Gender and
Human Rights Assistant will be working on an aBi Trust-funded project to build
capacity of refugee and host community farmers in and around Bidibidi refugee
settlement on their human rights and gender issues. The Gender and Human Rights
Assistant will District Farmers Associations and Mukwano Group of Companies to
integrate and strengthen its commitment to Social Responsibility (CSR) and UN
Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Conduct baseline assessment to establish
    the needs of target farmers in the area of human rights and gender
    mainstreaming and targeting, and propose appropriate actions.
  • Build the capacity of Mukwano Company on
    business and Human rights (BHR) approaches and train farmer groups on
    gender and human rights.
  • Build capacity of project staff, partners
    and other key stakeholders on gender and human rights mainstreaming.
  • Support the implementation of Do No Harm
    and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human  Rights to  Mukwano operations including its own
    supply chain and the to the DFA
  • Establish clear accountability and
    grievance mechanisms for all project partners aligned with the Core
    Humanitarian Standards.
  • In conjunction with the field teams,
    monitor and report on emerging/changing gender and human rights related
    issues within the project operations.
  • Stay abreast of political, social,
    economic and cultural developments that have an impact on gender and human
    rights.  



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the DanChurchAid
    (DCA) Gender and Human Rights Assistant job opportunity should a
    university degree in gender studies, social work, human rights, political
    sciences or relevant field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience
    working with farmer groups on gender and human rights programming,
    preferably in fragile contexts.
  • Previous experience working with private
    sector companies and good understanding of CSR approaches, including UN
    Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
  • Familiarity with key international
    standards for humanitarian work (e.g. Red Cross and Red Crescent Code of
    Conduct and the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS)
  • Previous experience in facilitating
    trainings with rural groups
  • Knowledge of local language is an
    advantage.
