Job Summary: The Chief
Medical Officer is an active member of the leadership team that serves as a
business and clinical strategist to build on and strengthen the positive and
mutually supportive relationship between hospital administration and the
medical staff. As the chief administrative leader responsible for clinical
quality within the organization, the CMO works closely with both administrative
staff and members of the medical staff and its leadership to achieve high satisfaction
from patients and referring physicians; ensure patient safety and high-quality,
cost-effective patient care; establish and monitor measures to ensure
excellence in clinical care; and to advance best practices in clinical care,
quality and safety.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- The CMO is responsible for planning,
organizing and directing the medical staff services for the facility. The
position assists the medical staff in formulating standards of care and
strategic direction for quality, facilitates communication between the
medical staff and administration, and ensures positive medical staff
relations. The CMO works to align medical staff goals with those of the
facilityand ensures compliance with quality, legal and regulatory
requirements. The CMO assists in performance improvement of clinical
practices and the development of clinical leaders; - Responsibility for physician engagement
strategies including supporting physician recruitment and promoting
programs which enhance physician satisfaction; - Designing clinical practice patterns and
clinical protocols to promote utilization and/or enhance quality of
outcomes; - Understanding of required technology to
evaluate clinical information systems and develop data tools; - Representing the hospital in a
professional, competent manner in the community; and - As member of the leadership team, direct
strategy development, planning and administrative management of assigned
areas by establishing and maintaining standards focusing on effective
translation of strategy into operational objectives and specific,
measurable goals and associated deliverables consistent with practice
standards and requirements and which align with and support the overall
mission, vision and values of the organization.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master of
Medicine degree with significant practice experience in any of the
following; Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Family Medicine or
Surgery from a recognized institution. - Registered by the Medical and Dental
Practitioners Council of Uganda - At least eight to ten years of
increasingly responsible experience in healthcare including at least three
years of leadership experience in a hospital setting - Possesses outstanding leadership,
communication, listening and interpersonal skills, necessary to quickly
establish credibility and rapport with a broad set of executives and
constituencies and support an environment that generates opportunities for
collaboration and input; - Ability to act as an effective agent for
change,recognizes the need for change and adapts and inspires others to
adapt; - Ability to address both broad and
strategic issues and the management of day-to-day operations; - Ability to innovate, encourage creative
thinking and imaginative solutions to issues or problems; - Ability to serve as an effective champion
for quality and continuous performance improvement using passion and
persuasive skills; - Thorough understanding of all elements of
healthcare delivery; - Excellent analytical and report writing
skills; - Good computer skills
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulatory
requirements and best practices in clinical care.
