About Us:
The MRC/UVRI Uganda Virus Research Unit on AIDS was established
following a request in 1988 from the Uganda Government to the British
Government for collaboration on the research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency
Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency. The Unit is a center of
excellence in HIV/AIDS related research. It conducts large-scale
epidemiological and intervention studies, clinical trials, virological and
immunological research and behavioural studies, and has generated a wealth of
research results that have been used to inform policy and practice that have
led to a large number of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals over
time.
Job Summary: The Clinical
Officer runs the general care clinic for female and male study participants and
their children under five, Undertakes the enrolment and follow-up research
visits for participants in the study.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Diagnoses, offers proper treatment and
    management of all general care problems in attending participants.
  • Organizes
    appropriate referral and follow-up for participants, if required (in
    consultation with a medical officer).
  • Conducts
    study procedures fo
    r the study and ensures proper adherence to all
    the protocols for the study.
  • Assists
    in other research related duties (Ensuring timely updates of lab results;
    ensuring timely updates of return visits )
  • Assists
    in any other duty as allocated by the medi
    cal officer/project
    leader.
  • To
    explain the aims, nature & processes of the study to study
    participants.
  • To
    obtain informed consent.
  • To
    assess proper adherence to all protocols of the study.
  • To
    detect possible health problems and appropriately refer
    to medical
    officers.
  • Perform
    any other duty as assigned by the team leader



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The
    applicant must hold a Diploma in Clinical medicine, Health Sciences or a
    related field from a recognised institution
  • Three
    years of proven experience in conducting general health
    care
    consultations and research among adults and children
  • Work
    experience in the clinical management of chronic diseases especially non
    communicable diseases
  • Work
    experience in research settings
  • Good
    updated knowledge of most common pathologies seen
    in primary health
    care.
  • Good
    interviewing and interpersonal skills and accurate in handling patient
    records
  • Have
    a good background of research ethics and procedures
  • Registration
    with the Allied Health Professional’s council
  • Fluent
    in English and Lu
    ganda
