Job Summary: The Hygiene and
Sanitation Assistant will primarily implement WASH interventions in cluster
based WASH on WVU and/or internationally recognized standards and policies. The
role leads in the implementation of WASH activities in the cluster/ Refugee
Settlements with the support of WASH Project Officer (where applicable), WASH
Project Manager and Local Government extension staff
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct periodic community assessment on
    sanitation and hygiene practices and needs to identify areas for
    interventions and validation of the WASH annual plans for the Response
    Programme area assigned
  • Develop designs for water and sanitation
    infrastructures, inclusive of preparation of bid and contract documents,
    technical specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Provide maximum and effective coordination
    and supervision of constructions of water and sanitation infrastructures,
    and ensured quality assurance in all processes.
  • Supervise and monitor construction of
    water and sanitation facilities in accordance to approved work plan,
    budgets, technical specifications and/or terms of reference (ToR), in
    coordination with sanitation/hygiene team.
  • Promote community led total Sanitation and
    Hygiene promotion through awareness creation and establishment and
    maintenance of functional Community Based Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion
    structures
  • Support establishment and implementation
    of health and hygiene promotion activities in schools.
  • Ensure that SMC/PTAs are given training on
    Operation and Maintenance of the water and sanitation facilities provided
    in the schools.
  • Offer technical support to infrastructure
    issues, as they arise, in order to mitigate challenges to delivering a
    quality product on time.
  • Network with the local government (e.g.
    District Water Office) to identify, assess, and follow-up with target
    communities and schools, and effective collaboration with the partners.
  • Carry out basic trainings and refresher
    trainings as well as extend guidance and technical support to the
    Community based Hygiene and sanitation Promotion structures.
  • Support in providing necessary data for
    the development of the annual budgets and activity plans of all the
    software activities and ensure they’re implemented timely and are of high
    quality
  • Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly and
    periodic plans and reports on general WASH project works in the project
    implementation area for strategic interventions
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by
    the supervisor.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the World Vision
    Hygiene and Sanitation Assistant job opportunity should hold a Higher
    Diploma in Civil/Water Engineering or a University Degree in Water/Civil
    Engineering or Degree in Public Health Engineering. Possession of a Post
    Graduate Qualification in a relevant field is an added advantage.
  • At least three years of previous
    experience in Water & Sanitation projects supervision, Designs and
    Construction Works supervision and hygiene promotion activities with an
    INGO.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, ArchiCAD,
    and GPS mapping software is an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal
    skills.
  • Ability to work long hours-sometime over
    the weekend in a hard to reach environment with basic accommodation
    facilities (tents).
  • Extensive knowledge about CLTS, CHAST and
    PHAST methods
  • Proven ability to ride a Motorcycle with a
    clean permit
