Monthly Salary: Negotiable in US Dollars
Our client is an International company that is opening a new branch in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that financial policies and standards are implemented and applied.
  • Providing financial advice, information and services to directors.
  • Ensuring that cash is properly managed.
  • Contributing actively to the pursuit of expenditure savings and structural cost reduction initiatives.
  • Monitoring and controls over financial procedures in the Company to ensure that they are in place, are effective and consistently applied.
  • Ensure the Intercompany balances are accurate and reconcile with parent companies on a monthly basis.
  • Implement ERP system.
  • Define process controls and procedures to obtain appropriate accounting records.
  • Preparation of monthly variance reports comparing actual to budget as part of monthly analysis of the financial position of the Company.
  • Ensuring that debt collection controls are in place and are effective in the Company.
  •  Ensuring that accounts payable and accounts receivable controls are in place and effective. That suppliers are paid accurately and on time and that;

o   A treasury policy is in place for the Company and that this is endorsed by the Directors.
o   The Galooli credit policy is applied and followed by the Company and with the active participation of the credit controller.
  • Ensuring that the Company’s manuals of authority are kept up to date, that the authority holders are aware of their roles and responsibilities and transactions are authorized in accordance with these.
  • Ensuring that monthly, quarterly, half yearly and annual statutory and group accounts and tax returns (PAYE, LST, VAT, NSSF) are prepared and filed accurately and on time. Approving and signing of these returns and ensuring that Company’s accounts comply in all respects with the Company’s accounting policies that local statutory accounts comply with local GAAP and that, where necessary these are reconciled monthly one to the other.
  • Offering support and facilitation to external tax and accounting auditors and maintaining proper books, records and archives to support these. Ensuring that internal and external audit recommendations and action items are implemented by their due dates.
  • Liaising with tax advisers and assisting actively with their efforts to minimize the tax burden of the Company.
  • Monitoring by personal review and supervision, the status of bank and other balance sheet reconciliations. This is to ensure that reconciliations are carried out on time and regularly reviewed, authorized and cleared.
  • Acting as the Company’s focal point with regard to insurance. This includes ensuring compliance with operating Risk and Insurance strategy as well as arranging premium renewals, payments and claims handling.
  • Acting as focal point within the Company for ensuring that business control incidents are properly investigated and reported in accordance with the Company’s guidelines. Also, that action items are followed up and implemented.
  •  Assisting, liaising and networking with the CFO add other members of the Finance Team collating data and information on a pan African basis. Also in disseminating and implementing new or changed policies, procedures and/ or standards throughout the Company.
  • Supervising the day to day activities of the accounting, treasury, credit control, planning/MI, Contracting & Procurement and (where necessary) IT staff in the country even where these staff report, for business purposes, to managers outside the country. Supervising and controlling their work ensuring that deadlines are met and that quality standards are best in class.
  • Ensuring that sufficient emphasis is placed on staff competence assessment, training, and skills development such that trained and accountable staff are available and / or developed within the finance function to enable it to fulfil its role with sufficient delegation and control.
  • Input and co-ordination of the annual budget process and monitor cash flow.
  • Control of business bank accounts and monitoring of cash flows;
  • Supervision of input for management reports;
  • Liaison with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to reconcile the Company tax position from time to time.
  • Synchronize and co-ordinate timeous billing


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Be a certified accountant.
  • At least three years of experience in managing an accounting function
  • Experience working with ERP systems is mandatory 
  • Ability to deal with “Hands On” work and to have wide picture at the same time.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationships.
