About UNRA:
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of
Parliament; The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became
operational on 1st July 2008.  The
mandate of UNRA is to develop and maintain the national roads network, advise
Government on general roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport
concerns, among others.
Job Summary: The Ferry
Operator will be responsible for navigating the ferry safely in accordance with
safety and marine navigation guidelines. The Operator will also be responsible
for directing the operation of the vessel in accordance with the Ferry
Operations Manual and applicable occupational health and safety regulations. In
addition the Operator will be responsible for signaling passengers and motor
vehicles to embark and disembark.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
·        
Signal passengers and motor vehicles to embark
and disembark;
·        
Navigate the ferry safely in accordance with
safety and marine navigation guidelines;
·        
Participate in conducting training drills;
·        
Carry out periodic inspections of the ferry to
ensure that the ferry is always in good working condition and report any
deficiencies or irregularities in its operation;
·        
Make sure that passengers are recorded and that
the safety provisions are observed;
·        
Operate hydraulic ramps to facilitate the safe
disembarkation of ferry passengers;
·        
Manage all ferry operations.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·        
The applicant for the UNRA Ferry Operator career
opportunity should hold an Ordinary Diploma in Mechanical Engineering,
Certificate of Competence in Marine/Nautical Science at least class 4 or any
other related qualification;
·        
Computer literacy skills
·        
At least three years’ experience on a vessel
keeping a navigation watch.
·        
High level of integrity;
·        
Proven track record of outstanding performance;
·        
Ability to work as part of a team;
·        
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
·        
Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relations;
·        
Ability to deliver accurate results in a timely
manner and in an environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
