organization whose mission is to supply medicines, medical equipment and
related healthcare services, and training of assured quality to the people of
Uganda at affordable prices. It was established in 1979 as a joint venture
between the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB) and the Uganda Protestant
Medical Bureau (UPMB).
Equipment Officer will coordinate as well as perform installation, repair and
maintenance of biomedical medical equipment and hospital furniture to the
expected and desired standards to ensure efficient and effective functioning of
the equipment in line with the recommended industrial guidelines and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- The incumbent will prepare annual section
work plans and budgets - Keenly monitor and coordinate activities
of the biomedical equipment workshop - Carry out market and industry research to
determine trends in biomedical equipment technology and use - Ensure that repair jobs at the JMS
workshop or at health facilities are carried out in a manner that meets
acceptable professional and industrial standards. - Prepare operational activity plans for the
section in liaison with the workshop team and ensure defined targets are
realized - Work out maintenance schedules and costs
for all equipment installed in the member units by JMS using commissioning
dates as the basis. - The incumbent will also ensure workshop
tools and test equipment are secure, and plan for their replacement. - Organise and conduct training programs for
member units. - Work closely with relevant departments to
ensure JMS’s procurements for medical equipment and spare parts are of
acceptable quality and cost effectiveness. - The jobholder will organise and
participate in outreach visits to member units in order to carry out
medical equipment installation, commissioning, testing, maintenance,
repairs and advisory services. - Offer advisory services to customers in
terms of preventive maintenance, repairing maintenance manuals,
standardising of medical equipment, establishing safety at work and fire
prevention. - Provide technical advice and support to
JMS with respect to operational equipment and other installations where applicable - Travel to customer sites located in
different parts of Uganda to install, commission or repair medical
equipment. - Manage the day-to-day operations of the
workshop, plan and schedule work, and in liaison with the workshop team
compile reports on activities and jobs undertaken.
Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s
degree in biomedical medical or clinical engineering. - Specialized training in repair and
maintenance of a wide range of medical equipment is a key requirement - A minimum of three years of related
working experience in a similar position - Proven ability to read and interpret
schematics and equipment service manuals - Competence in using all applicable test
equipment and workshop tools required in the performance of the outlined
duties.
